Default Hmmm 240 Gibbs to 6-284 ??

Well I’m in a debate with myself and and I’m sure somehow I will lose.
I have in my possession a 240 Gibbs on a Sako L61 with a custom stock put together by Ron Propp . The issue is I don’t have dies and a new set would be a year away and at least $250 . My option is to pull the barrel , set it back the appropriate amount and rechamber to 6-284 with a long throat . Any body been shooting a 240 Gibbs and have any velocities they wish to share ?

Send a couple fired 240 case's to RCBS and I don't think it will cost you that much for die's. Custom dies for my 25-06 Mashburn were like $80 right from RCBS.

Stick with the Gibbs and try a WTB post here and on GCN for a set of dies. D.H.

How bad do you want a 6mm? How much do you desire the 6-284?
I’m thinking the way I’d approach is I’d either do what it takes to shoot it as is, or if I’m taking a barrel off to work on it I’m probably replacing it altogether.
The Gibbs sounds fun but the brass prep would deter me unless it was my only oddball cartridge.

I’d message who posted above David Henry and give him a call though.

If spending $250.00 and some time is an issue now, wait until its due for a new barrel. I had both, a .240 Gibbs and a .257 Banshee. Both were fun, but gross barrel burners.
If it were me, I would take the plunge now and get a new barrel chambered for any cartridge you wish for 7 -$800.00. (less the additional cost of possible Custom dies) You have a great platform to work with.
