Default Solo Tahr Hunt

Some pics of a solo tahr hunt I did a few years ago.

I got dropped off by a chopper on the tops and spend 3 days making my way down to a hut. I took the photos with my iPhone, but the batteries died
before I could get a photo of the bull on the hill.

I watched the bull one evening come off the cliffs to feed and then 22 hrs later I was hiding in a spot ready for him to retrace his route (they are fairly predictable). He walked off the cliffs and to about 150 yards of my position and I made a good shot and dropped him. I nicked his eye and then into his shoulder, was a steep angle. The skulls I posted in the taxi section is this bull. I would have liked to have kept the skin but it was moulting (being spring) so left it.

Thanks for the comments.

The meat is pretty good, but better on the younger animals. We normally shoot a younger animals for meat.

Great pictures and thanks for putting these up. You have an amazing country. We spent 6 weeks touring the North Island last year and I told my wife the next trip back a hunting side trip would be on my list.

Good to hear you enjoyed your trip! I'm planning to visit Alberta in sept and can't wait. On your return NZ trip I recommend visiting the South Island for hunting. Happy to help with planning if you need any advice.
