Can I now expect an interview for my PAL/RPAl
Hi,
So I'm pretty much in the last stages of my PAL/RPAL application. Both of my references called in earlier today, and all of that went well.
I hear the application process now moves away from the RCMP in Miramichi, and the Alberta branch take over?
Do I now have to expect an interview with the RCMP? Will they come to my house?
Thanks,
DA

No it's just a phone conversation, couple of really quick questions. If you have the time you can just call them at the cfc to do it.

I only had a phone interview as well, about 10 minutes. Mostly surrounding questions regarding the application for my restricted licence, ie. reasoning for wanting restricted licence etc...

So lots of conflicting information regarding an interview.
And what reason do I give for wanting an RPAL? I only went for restricted as my old job required it, but now I don't really have a reason. I am interested in continuing to shoot handguns, but maybe not buy one.

I just told them that I had no immediate plans for the purchase of one, but that in the future if I had found one for a decent price, or a collector, that I wanted the ability to purchase it. They were fine with that response.

Tell them you may buy one in the next few years for target shooting. It's as simple as that.
The interview, that may or may not happen, is just a phone call. To move things along even quicker, you can call them and do your interview to help knock a few days off the process, potentially.

Very rarely they will phone the applicant. I've never heard of them stopping by your residence

There are only two reasons (for a restricted license) acceptable to the RCMP: 1) target shooting; or 2) collecting. A third could be for employment, if that were the case.
The safest and least controversial reason, is target shooting. Do not even mention any other (perceived) reasons...........especially self defense.

Call the CFC phone number. Give them your ref/application number. When they transfer you to the file officer, tell him/her your references have spoken with the CFC and you are able to do an interview now to save them the trouble of calling you. Interview is straight forward.

Ok I will most likely give them a call at some point.
So my application has now been transferred to the CFO for Alberta?

I too had my ex down as a reference for my restricted, which went through in 34 days (this in 2014).
Made me wonder if having your ex wasn't a good idea...if you're ex is comfortable with you owning firearms you may be looked on as pretty stable mentally.

X
Years ago I had to go for an in person interview because of the x. She was not on my reference list but being an x, they spoke with her anyways.
Did not take the interviewer long to realize who was the real danger to public safety after we spoke.
RPAL arrived in the mail within a week of the interview.
Be honest in everything and you don't have to remember any lies. In person and on the phone.
Don't sweat it. If you are not hiding things it will come to you.

What would it happen if an applicant had an ex, and in fact a current girlfriend, but decided to omit that fact on their application?

I know a lady that did not hear on the status of her application for a very long time. When she finally called to enquire she was told that she had not heard from them because she failed to accurately reveal her marital status. After everything was finally in the open they seemed to make her wait an unusually long time. Maybe one of her references spilled the beans?
