Default .308 ammo

Where are you guys buying ammo from ? Looking for some decent bulk ammo for TIKkA CTR .308. Range shooting is getting pricy at a $1.50 a shot.

That's why it is worth it to load your own. Far cheaper and better quality - and you can tailor loads to your rifle for consistency.

Factory ammo for everything, even 22 is ridiculously priced these days.

Reloads are decent. With saved brass you can buy the cheapest bullets and reload for about $0.70 a shot with the current prices on components. Buy better bullets and the price creeps up. Maybe other people have better bargains with buying their components.

In my experience, "range shooting" involves targets...

If you're shooting targets, your goal is usually tight groups and/or putting as many as you can in the bullseye...

If you're trying to get good groups, or hit the bullseye consistently, wouldn't the "best" ammo be preferred for a rifle like the CTR ? Not the "cheapest"..?

The quality and cost of components is your own choice to make... $0.70 is about as cheap as you can get with common current prices

The OP should look at the Hirtenberger Austrian surplus. Very good quality, consistant, and clean. Battle packs of 720 work out to around $.70/round.

It would depend on what you are going to the range for I would think.

Tuning a hunting rifle for the season I would say shoot your hunting load, but if you are looking to get max trigger time to work on cheek weld, trigger pull, breathing, sight picture retention or any other core marksman skill cheap ammo will suffice (unless it is completely inconsistant in the rifle). Even shooting 3 MOA you will see when you are doing something right and when you are not.

That Hirtenberger is all steel core. If the OP is shooting at a range it may not be allowed.
