Default Beaver problems

So I live just off a creek in western Alberta that has tons a bunch of beavers in it. Been doing a bit of reading in the regulations and all I can find is that you can shoot them on private land without a license. So what do I need for licensing to shoot them on public land? Am I also able to trap them on public land? I'm assuming I'll need to take the trapping course to do any of this. But if I take the course and I can't do any of this I'm not going to bother. Any insight would be great. Thanks.

"Beaver

May be hunted and trapped, without a licence and during all seasons, on privately owned land by the owner or occupant of the land, or by a resident with written permission from the owner or occupant of the land."

Why not see if there's a trapper in the area who'll manage the beaver population for you? That way he'll utilize the entire beaver and it won't go to waste. Where are you located?

If that creek borders your land YOU have first dibs at trapping or shooting them. IF the creek is on public land YOU will need a licence to shoot or trap on said land . The owner of any land that has running water going through it has rights to trap to the center of that running water. Although IF the other side of the bank is someone else property , YOU would need a form saying you have permission to trap on that side . This ONLY applies to trapping ! Anyone else may sled and walk up and down that running water at any time WITHOUT the permission of anyone on either side .
At the price of Beaver pelts right now , it would take a while to recover your costs of a trappers course . BTW the form you need is obtained at any F&W office in Alberta .

If crown lease land the person who leases the land can give you permission. If crown but not lease land you can talk to fish and wildlife and the will set you up with biologist of area who can sign your permission sheet. If Rfma it is the trappers area and stay away.

Default Trapping.

As long its an open trapping season and not in a RFMA, you can trap with permission or shoot with permission, west alberta is where the registered traplines are and the registered trappers have first call on fur there. I trap quite a few area just along the borders of the registered areas and beavers are a huge problem as the registered trappers don't bother as much with them. You should pm any one of the members here with specifics as where you are asking about as that makes a huge difference. We would be happy to point you where you need to go for info or help with thinning them out.

Beavers can be shot or trapped year round on private property.

Just forget about the poor little beavers... they just want to be happy and raise a family like anybody else.

Instead, git yerself a fishing rod and some panther martins, and go gift yerself some supper...
