I would think that the weather has been way too nice for elk to be invading the feedstacks.

Support the Treaty Hunter, tell them where the Elk are wintering, and summering.

Geez Pops, after so many years of asking here, you should have all our spots by now.

I think the days of landowners asking for help shooting gophers and coyotes and elk have gone the way of the dodo bird.......im guessing a good chunk of landowners would rather see less "hunters" around their property.

That might be the case in southern Alberta cause deer hunting mulies has gone completely crazy from the hype of hunting tv. Most farmers in the north are more than willing to give permission to hunt for a late season elk if they are bein an issue. Look into the 500s and start with the colony’s they will even process the animal for you.

Except maybe for the Manning and North of there.

"La Crete" locals have been doing a pretty good job with "shooting" a pile of them. Along with moose and deer. Lots of money and land rental scenarios.

That info from a good friend of mine that hunted that country for decades, and his last fall's observations, and local feedback.

I won't go any further as to what many of the locals are really saying about that. Many would cringe...

You have a cow tag? What zone? Not hard getting permission for a cow tag in January around a silage pit

Kinda like pig hunting in Texas. The realized they could make a profit and now unless you know someone it’s highly unlikely you can just knock on a few doors and go.

When the Spirit River Fish and Wildlife office was still open , we would drop in in January, leave a cell number, and within an hour we would have multiple landowners contacting us to shoot elk on their property. But that was several years ago, and the snow was deep, and the elk were into the cattle feed.

I know a farm that has elk issues i have helped the old guy out a couple times and asked for permission with a. I don’t let hunters on my land. But told a friend of mine with a fee he may allow hunting.
But he whines all the time about elk and now moose in the garden.

Yup, that's the experience I have had - you need snow and cold weather to get into that action, helping to thin out the bale busters.

Just getting the timing right isn't easy - not having a flexible schedule, and in one target area that I have, the draws are not undersubscribed.

I hope you and/or the farmer realize... That's illegal.

That’s exactly right… we are fortunate to have a landowner who allows cow elk to be taken when we have the tags. He also allows the folks from the reserve close to his place a few elk. Come deer season and elk season, no way he lets anyone on his land.
