Saw lots of whitetail deer this morning. Shot a not bad buck at first light. Saw 6 bucks and 8 does in a 3 mile radius. Was awesome action packed hunting this morning.

Didn’t see much today, the deer seem pushed into the thick bush areas and permanent closure areas. A few bull elk and a bunch of bull moose taken. Some nice big bull moose. Saw 10 deer today and one buck. Right at dark. Lots of walking but only one whitetail buck down in my group. Good luck tomorrow 1st rifle and good luck for the folks following us.

Was fortunate enough for us to find this guy at 230 pm today. At checkin l was told it was no 61 for moose combined so far for primitive and rifle 1. Good luck to everyone still hunting and future hunts.

Thanks for the updates. Always keen to know how things are going on the Wainwright hunts.
Looks like like quite a few Moose are being taken. I am considering trying to draw for a bull Moose in Wainwright next year so interested to know what the population looks like. For those who are there, appreciate if you could keep us informed of how the hunt goes. Good luck and post some pictures!

Hellooo update of base hunt. Very slow morning. Freezing rain. Never in 23 years of being on base have I seen it this slow. Pushed bush and I got a mule buck iam happy with. Then I ripped off my running board.
And my break pad wore down and seized ripping my caliper apart. 463 bucks in break parts. Try driving off base with no breaks or fluid lol. Thank God my outlaws live in wainwright just got that fixed gonna give it a go Tommorow morning.
Wainwright looks like Mars without snow lol.

Yea, pretty slow.
150 hunters on site and as of approx. 1 hr after last shot, 11 deer taken.

There must have been signs of pads wearing out prior to the trip though, no?

I’ve done that before twice, but not driving off the base. Once a line raptured on my… 1990 I think it was Accord. Drove over 15 km in the city with parking breaks only. The other time, a pad fell apart (I didn’t know that can happen before, lol) on the way from Banff to Calgary, the rotor got a little messed up, the fluid poured out just before I hit the driveway of whom I was visiting. I had all dealer break parts, as well aftermarket callipers, waiting for me at home (Peace River) because I was planning to do a complete break overhaul when I got back from the trip. So I put the calliper back together, installed new cheap pads, refilled the break fluid, and bled the lines the same day, all with a small ratchet set I always have in the vehicle; I also only used the jack that came with the vehicle. I drove the vehicle for a few more months before doing the complete break job after that.

Well truck held together today got another mule buck. Passed on 8 mule does and 4 wt does. 6 moose shot, 3 elk and a pile of fawns at checkout. We left after signing out. So could be a few more moose and elk. Definitely a slower year than others.
Great hunt run by awsome people. 👏

Well wainwright 2023 is a wrap for our group of 4.
2 big wt does, 1 nice 4x4 mule with a kicker, 1 fork horn mule and 1 small bull moose. We passed on enough does to tag out our 3 deer hunters. Numbers are down. No snow does not help. We pushed alot of bush today and sign is very low. From the south west, north west, middle and Annex
Good luck to the next group your gonna need it. Pray for snow. Iam glad I will be 10 years away from another tag. If the deer sign is a indication
We did see a solid 175 mule in the bow zone and 180 typical on the base fence line had to jump 2 ft

Elk success rate on the base is extremely low. I think 2 yrs ago it was around 12 or 13 for the year if I remember. Being at 8 isn't great but isn't bad either.
