Default Hornady ELD-X 30 cal. 178 Gr.

Just curious on this option . Has anyone used the hornady Eld-X 30 cal 178 gr. in a 300 win mag , 24" barrel 1/10 twist .If so how was your experience on performance , penetration , grouping etc . Preferred Powder selection to achieve the above . I currently have IMR 4350 & H4831 sc on hand but hornady handbook 11 Th. Edition doesn't list these . Any info suggestions welcome .

My son has 1:11 twist and his accuracy is sub MOA at 500m. Your 1:10 is just as good or better.

His loads are 178g ELD-X OR ELD-MATCH with:

Imr 4064 60g
IMR 4350 70g
RL22 75g

With any of the above loads he is good. I prefer making his IMR 4350 loads because of the availability of that powder.

All 3 powders put him between 3000 and 3100fps

We havent recovered an ELD-X. Thru ribs, thru heart, thru ribs and gone.

****73.8g is the Hornady maximum for H4831 powder with your 178g ELD-X.

I have sako 85 finnlight 11 in 300 WM I use the same bullet accuracy is .5 moa, have shoot out to 985 yards, farthest confirmed kill on a large VI black Bear at 585 yards. Bear went 40 yards into timber I got down there and had to finish it off with 1. I have taken some very nice mulies as well. 79g H1000 give me 3040 with ES of 6 and under 5/8" at 100 yards.

Ogive measurement for you. Almost exactly what I have done.

Note the Hornady comment he makes on variance

There will be 100 different opinions on this Im sure as you can turn reloading into quantum physics if you have the desire
