Tag soup as well. Passed on some up and comers on my own land. Haven’t shot a deer in 4 or 5 years 😡. Maybe Wainwright will be good to me

Didn't even buy myself a big game tag this year. First time in over 30 years.
Watched my son get his first though.
That more than made up for it.

got out 3 evenings for a total of maybe 6 hours. Saw 1 doe I could have taken if I could hit one at 1800+ yards...

Tag soup is an annual meal. Nothing out of the ordinary

Default Tag soup

Tag soup can be made using the stone soup recipe, just replace the stone with your tag.

Tag soup and stew for me as well.
Had a doe tag for WT and Mule, but passed them on our land because the numbers are just so low.
Had a few chances at a couple decent WT bucks, but the deer gods said no, and things just didn't pan out.
I even had chance at nice WT buck out feeding in the stubble. Spotted him as I was driving to my pheasant hunting field. He was in a great spot, calmly feeding in the canola stubble. Easy stalk over a hill and he'd be 100 yards away. Parked the truck and made my way through the irrigation canal and up the hill. Crested the hill and he was no where to be found. It had been less than 10 minutes since I passed him in the truck. Where he went I have no idea. Its was stubble from miles on either side of the canal, without enough cover to hide a pheasant. Went for a drive three miles radius from where I originally saw him and could see any sign of him. Crazy thing is on the way home from hunting pheasants, about three hours later, I found about 1.5miles away, walking through a field with cattle. He was safe for another day. Crazy how they can just disappear, even without cover, just stubble fields.
No big deal....Still have sausage left over from last year.
Just great to be out in the field regardless of the outcome.

Tag soup here. Hunted very hard but saw very few animals that I had a tag for. Plenty others of course. There’s something to be said about luck.

I had such high expectations for a productive elk hunt this is year. We watched the big herd dance around land 3 KM away where we didn’t have access.

Soup for me too. It's a first, but I’m kind of alright with it. Had shot a good sized buck on the 20th, and tracked it til i lost the blood trail, then again the next morning. I’m satisfied I found where the coyotes got to it today, but no antlers as consolation. Only fur.

I'm actually getting quite good at soup. Even though our season still has 4 days I'm preparing all of the ingredients. It doesn't matter, both of my boys shot nice whitetail bucks and one shot a bull moose so I have some soup bones to throw in too.

Ice fishing season is a long sit without pepperoni so I stopped this tag soup thing a few years back

Tag soup for me too...

Been enjoying being the go-fer on several successful hunts this year, I still get to help haul meat and butcher, though...

Was a tough go for lots of guys this year with the warm weather and lack of snow cover.

I know many guys with tags hanging on their christmas trees.

I have a couple hanging on my tree too, but mine have bloody fingerprints on them

Only tag I have left I chose not to fill it

My season went pretty smoothly but a little adapting on the fly to the conditions was in order

Default tasty with habanero sauce

I am getting used to the taste of unused tags. I find that habenero or ghost pepper sauce makes them easier to swallow. I have not filled a deer tag myself in 4 years. Not that I have not had the chance , just that I am much fussier and find it more enjoyable to take others out and let them do it,
Dont get me wrong. I still drool at Big Buck nights and would throw the wife or kif=d out of the blind if a 175" showed up

Gotta be 15 or 20 years since I filled a tag, so long I can't remember. I'm a very poor hunter. I don't want to get my hands dirty or hurt my back aiming the gun. My excuses for not shooting anything are vast and diverse. Too big, too small, too tired, too far from the road, forgot my gun, it goes on and on.

I had a great season. The weather was awesome, no slogging thru snow and 30 below like some years. Saw lots of game and really enjoyed my days out there.

Well I got skunked on elk this year. It was real tough finding them for me. But came home with a moose. So no complaints.

I've been eating elk tag soup for many years now...but I have a good system figured out. I hang them on the xmas tree first , for a few weeks , then it goes into the soup. So I'm getting good value from it.
As a flavor enhancer I was also able to add some w.t. tag this year. I find it a much richer broth that way..
