Default County Landowner Maps

Other than maptown, is there’s a cheaper method of obtaining a bunch of central Alberta landowner maps without having to drive to each county office or use a online version? Looking for paper map copies.

I will call around tomorrow! Did you get current or older maps? If the older ones, what’d they charge ya?

Default Maps

I have also called the County offices and had them ship me maps. Some counties have a coil bound map book which I found more convenient then the single large map that you are always folding to make it easy to handle. Prices vary but the ones I bought last year were between $25.00 and $35.00 shipped to me. These were current copies and even then it depends on how frequently the County has there maps re-done. In one case the current map was already 14 months old.

I’ve never been offered an older version when I visit the county offices directly. Probably due to liability and such. You can also look online and some have them for free for download. Slave Lake and Athabasca I think does. There’s also a thread on it here too.

The maps in the link are quite high quality. You could download them and maybe get them printed some where like Staples for cheap.

I went on to the link on my phone and downloaded them there. That way I can have 25+ maps in the palm of my hand where ever I go.

X2. I like paper too but I lose them. If I have them on my phone I just zoom in to the quarter and pick the name off it.

I still have a bunch of paper maps, but it's hard to beat the convenience of the iHunter app and buying the county map downloads. I was a little skeptical of the app until I tried it. Loved it right away and the maps made it twice as good.

Since this is a landowner map thread, I have a newbie question.

When a landowner map says ALBERTA LTD followed by 7 digit number what does that mean? Leased by the province? Is there a way of gaining access to these lands?

Its owned by a private numbered limited company. Private lands, you must have permission.

You betcha. Save it there and it’s clear as day.

Try this one. MD 124 Slave Lake. Open it then save it in iBooks. No issues at all.

Set your phone to the "airplane mode". The reason it dies fast is that it keeps looking for something to catch a signal when there is none. The battery just drains itself out in those circumstances. Not much help with the maps though. I have some paper maps, which are pretty inconvenient to carry around, so I photographed them with my phone, rather the areas of interest, which is way more convenient. So if you are buying maps, buy the digital versions. It is much more convenient.

Default iHunter app

I used to carry around those maps as well, but went in to the digital ara and really enjoy the ihunter app.. in there I have purchased the county maps I required for areas I hunt, oyen to youngs town to brooks, foremost many berries walsh shuler etc.. and it has worked perfectly. guys with larger phone screens would work even betterforth images but zooming in is no issue, it also shows your location so you can see exactly which quarter youre on. so this is also a route to take..

Any of you have younger children? I find my 11 year old has better luck figuring out cell phone settings and apps than I do. I got the ihunter app and it seems great. I'll let her figure it out and then she'll have to come hunting with me.
