Default 6.5 Creedmoor

Looking for an excellant deer dropping combo, try Hornadys 143 gr ELD_X bullet with 40.5 gr of h4350 powder. I used a 243 for many years, and many deer had to be tracked even when well hit.The 6.5 drops em like a rag doll.

I think most of us are pretty tired with all the foolishness lately on these 6.5 threads. I have no idea if this is a troll thread. There will be no latitude given on this thread for foolishness. None at all. You've been warned.

6.5 is an accurate dog. Don’t know why anyone would ever buy one. New 308 is all it is

People would buy a 6.5 if they could get a factory deer/moose bullet and a coyote/varmint bullet.

It’s a bit overkill but you have the right to choose.😉😁

Yes, the 243, 6.5, 6.8, 270, 7mm, 308, 303, 338, 350, 375, 416, and 458 are all good calibers,,, pick 1 or more of them,,, and enjoy the outdoors.

That's what really counts.

It won't be long before I switch back to my 50 & 54 caliber black powder,,, they make great gopher guns. Ha

USSOCOM are replacing their 7.62 rifles with Creedmoor's in 2019. Now the Marines are looking at doing the same at some point in the future.

I was a no nothing new to hunting guy 2 years ago and bought a 30-06....its ok, but a little heavy on the recoil.. besides, its been 2 years, probably about time to add something to the arsenal...

I am just running SST's and Varget. Will do some looking at this combo for next season after I run through my present supplies. Have you chrono'd it?

I have a couple for the kids and one for myself. Have had extremely good luck on multiple deer with 130 Berger’s. What’s not to like?

My friend had a 6.5, but it was to much for her to handle, so she jumped into the 243 category using HPBT 107gr bullets with RL-17 @ 3000 ft-per seconds. It flattens them Elk out like nothing.

The key word in my post is,,, "I have a friend." True or false. Ha

One shot , bang flop ! , on mature cow elk at about 200 meters, using my .243 Win bolt action , 20 inch barrel, 100 grn interlock Handloads ,,, great for elk,

Maybe not so good for smaller game ? Smaller targets, bigger misses

Seems like a good choice for deer. Little more meat on it than a .243

Not to take anything away from the .243 as its a heck of a nice little deer cartridge.

At any rate, neither would be my cup of tea.

Wow, this is interesting. I would not have considered a 243 for anything bigger than deer. Would you use it on a bull (elk or moose)?

Back on topic with 6.5 bullets, I have and use often a 6.5 Swede that is an incredible accurate killing machine, I like the 140 grn VLD Berger for my Swede

I absolutely believe this. Magazines, the internet and social media has sure fed a lot of people and created a very bs stigma on what it takes to kill something with hide, heart and blood. Phil Shoemaker calls all this banter needless ballistic masterbation. Some folk enjoy it though I guess...

Yes, I agree with staying on topic to.

I have lots of 30 caliber rifles, they dispatch everything with fur.

I like the new word "Bag Flop," nothing like rattling critters with in the wrapper. Ha.

The Wrapper is what holds everything in place you know. Ha

Why?
I have a 243 and a 7mm that do exactly what a cred does lol, well hit or hit right is your issue.

I heard that all guns work for gathing food.

The deciding factor of that happening is the wing-nut behind the rifle. Ha

My friends and I are planning on selling all of our rifles so we can up grade to next rifles that are the latest and greatest.

Nothing worse than getting left behind on a planet that is speeding into space on a unknown course.

Ho Hummmmm,,, life is so hard to keep up with you know.

129 gr. LRAB work great for deer in the 6.5 Creedmoor,I am sure they would work great in a swede ,260,grendal or a 47.A 143 eldx is a great bullet but maybe a little overkill for deer.Anyone try the 150 gr sierra in there 6.5's yet.I think a 160 gr boattail would be great for long range stuff, not sure how the cm or any of the smaller cases would handle them.

A higher weight bullet in the same cartridge doesnt "overkill" anything. If anything it will hold together better on impact and preserve more meat. Theres a reason varmint bullets are at the light end of the bullet weights for caliber. On the opposite ends of the bullet weight selection, Light bullets will have a higher fragmentation shrapnel style vs a heavier bullet will penetrate and hold together better.
