Question What bird makes this sound?

Lately, when I go fishing on a lake by the Alberta/BC border, I've been hearing a bird sound. The bird always seem to be in the same spot by the lake but its on private property so I can't go to see what it looks like, however, it makes a distinct sound. The tone of the bird call is like a crows (almost like when a person talks while crying or injured) and it almost sounds like its saying "Carl! Carl!" or "Darrel! Darrel!". Does anyone know what bird this might be, and even if it is a bird?

Nope. Too high pitched.

Could be. Maybe I was listening to a retarded Raven (even though Raven's are said to be extremely intelligent) that couldn't figure out his proper call? It's in the same tone as a Raven but its not just a short "squak". Also, I don't think Raven's would be around water much as they feed on garbage and sometimes maggots or beetles.

Is that a joke, or an actual bird? I've never heard of it and it seems the internet hasn't either.

Ravens have a ton of different vocabulary, even mimicry. Ravens eat almost anything and are very fond of travelling lake shores and river systems.

Could be a Fockowee bird.

If its calling out Carl, Carl, Darrel, Darrel you may just have to sit longer and see if it jumps out of the brush and says Carl, Carl Darrel, Darrel Where the Fockowee.

All kidding aside it sounds like a Raven to me.

Without being able to hear the actual call I'm going to put in another vote for it being a raven.

I don't think a raven has a "proper" call. I swear, I have never heard the same thing out of different birds.

They are very vocal and some of what I've heard them utter is mindboggling

Yellow headed black bird? Does only make 1 sound? No song?
Is the sound more scratchy-hoarse or whistle-like?
