Just curious as to how some people are wired. What would cause a 16 year bet to do something like that and risk 16 years of service? Pretty sad

Either something changed in her life, or she has had issues for a long time that went unnoticed. As far as being newsworthy, when it's a person that carries a firearm, and that has the public trust, this is something that should concern people.

Couldn't agree more! When someone breaks the very law they signed up to represent it should be on billboards.

More than likely she's been doing it for years.

Just because you don a uniform doesn't mean you don't have human struggles. She need two things. 1) Be held accountable. 2) Get help cuz she's obviously troubled, as this ain't normal behavior.

The whole suspension with pay I never agree with. If anyone has committed an offense that calls for suspension they should not see a dime.

I also agree she has likely had a problem with theft for a long time and this is just the first time she was caught

It is just more concerning, when the troubled person is carrying around a handgun, and could wind up in stressful situations, where people's lives are at stake.

i somewhat agree but people can complain about cops at any time. Its actually encouraged.
Can morph into an unjustified punishment if the cop is innocent. Thats why they suspend with pay normally. When there is better evidence after an investigation, they tend to change it to "without pay"...kinda lets people/public know that there is enough to believe that there is fault without endangering the judicial.outcome

Fair enough

Just as much as I don’t want to see someone paid for committing an offense It would be wrong for someone who was proven innocent to loose pay over it as well. Likely the process could be improved but we would be splitting hairs at that point

Agreed, it’s important to prove allegations before removing pay.
It sticks in my craw to lay people who are guilty but it protects the innocent ones from being unfairly damaged.

Does not #1 being held accountable address concerns

If she is held accountable, it should prevent future concerns, but a person does wonder how long this was going on before she was caught. Thankfully, this disturbed individual didn't cause anyone to be harmed, before she was caught.

I'm assuming she was stealing antibiotics. Looks like her face is pretty puffed up. Bee stings maybe?

That's a union issue, no doubt they'll be out there defending her.

I would disagree based on what she is being investigated for. Sure she allegedly stole some things, that doesn’t mean she would be unable to perform admirably or perform appropriately in a stressful use of force situation. If she had been suspects of some violent crime yes I would agree with you her carrying a firearm would be concerning but not over a theft and fraud.

I know some (thankfully not many) officers who morally are the scum of the earth in their personal lives but on the street have no concerns whatsoever about them making the right call to protect the public or about their ability to perform their duties.

Seems to me that there is a whole lot of people on this site who long to be able to carry a weapon. People who may not have had serious vetting to deem suitability for the privilege. People who may also find themselves in a stressful situation...

Many times in these cases it comes down to a gambling addiction. Hardly a 'fairly dangerous person' these days.

She obviously has psychological issues, and our laws don't seem to mean much to her, and that is enough to concern me, about her being armed, and in a position of trust.

The gambling addiction itself would not bother me as much as what some people are prepared to do to feed that addiction.

Is it possible she accidentally did it? I don't use self check out isles.
Just makes no sense for her to do this.

On seven different occasions? If she can operate a computer and a radio, a self check isn't much of a challenge.

She looks like the kind of cop who, if it came to a "use of force" incident would be reaching for her gun , rather than a night stick .

Wow kind of a judgemental statement don’t you think?

One of the medics in my company when I was in Iraq looked like a nerdy little video game punk who would never leave his parents basement. Yet under fire after and IED explosion had just killed 2 of his platoon mates jumped into a creek filled with raw sewage to retrieve the body of one of the guys who had just been killed. Earned a silver star for that. Nobody would have ever thought he was capable of such an act of bravery yet he did it without a second thought! My point is, don’t judge a book by its cover. More often than naught your the one who will come out looking like an arse...

You must know more about the story: what makes it obvious that she has psychological issues? What things do you know that give you great concern?

Why would a police officer risk her career after 16 years, to steal and commit fraud, if she didn't have psychological issues? Does that behavior sound rational to you?
