Good lord how much did Draisaitl play this afternoon? 25 minutes? It was like every time I looked he was on the ice.

This team looked good though. Couple of the other games looked like they were getting a bit lucky, but this game they were the clear better team.

Points in the bank. Onward and upward!

That they are.

While winning is clearly better than the alternative, honest question, have they played a legitimate playoff team yet? In my opinion, they only play 2 playoff bound teams all October.

I'm interested in where they'll be sitting following November, when they play Pittsburgh, St. Louis, San Jose x 2, Colorado x 2, Dallas, and Vegas.

Also, anyone care to explain the "Continuation" rule? Both Oilers announcers on 630, and the guys on Lowe Tide on 1060 both said the whistle went before the puck crossed the line in the New Jersey game. If that was the case, why did it count? I've never heard of the discussed, but not explained, "Continuation" rule before and couldn't find much about it via Google.

23:24. His ATOI this year is 24:59, which is insane for a forward.

That's a fair statement.

Untill then we will have to be happy with what's transpired so far this year, sure been an exciting ride so far. Something just feels different about this year's team, they don't give up after going down a goal, and that's REALLY refreshing.

Said it before and I'll say it again, LOVE that L-D kid! What a machine.

That Bear kid is sure getting it done in Larsons absence, those are some big skates to fill too. He is eating up a LOT of ice time.

There is a different feel to the club this year.

Not sure why, maybe just luck of the draw but I don’t remember them even playing a playoff team in the preseason either. Oh well. They are coming up.

You don't think the Jets or Flames are going to make the playoffs?

Some times, like Ottawa beating Tampa, that happens.

Well with the top 2 point producers in the NHL they might just make a go of it

Never seen the game today but wow 5-0 look at you go.

Bonus of the AM game is you will all be free'd up to catch the Flames tonight in Vegas. Should be a good one.

Extra motivation against Flames with that heated rivalry. No game is a for sure deal, that's why they play em. Will take it to them next time.

They are riding a 40% PP and 92% PK... not sustainable over the season. They're riding a serious PDO heater right now. James Neal is not going to score another 7 goals in any more five game stretches this season. McDavid and Draisaitl cannot each keep up their current TOI all season.

That said, they do look good. Real good. Especially the dcorp has looked fantastic this year so far. Bear has played like a stud and his passing is a thing of beauty. Persson has been getting better every game. Klefbom with seven points in five games and is beginning to truly look like a legit #1 d. Nurse has been solid again.

The best news is, if the Oilers play a meager just over .500 hockey and let a couple of their losses be OTLs, they're basically guaranteed a playoff spot in the weak Pacific. Last year was 93 pts for 3rd in the division. Kings are horrid. Yotes are meh again. SJ has had a horrible start (but will improve). Van might be good but they're still real young with a lot of roster holes. Anaheim has had a hot start but like the Oilers, their current metrics aren't sustainable.

Vegas and Calgary are poised to be good again this year though. Be interesting down the line how things shape up.

Larsson going down may just turn out to be a huge blessing if our new D players continue to learn and progress. Was telling a buddy on the way home from the hunt that if they continue to grow, and Bouchard presses from the farm, it may make a Larsson trade possible when he gets healthy to address whatever need is most pressing. Regardless, wherever this leads, it's good times to savor. Been a long time coming.

Agreed. Hate to be that guy but imagine having Hall on this squad instead of Larsson. Running a McDavid-Drai-Kassian and Nuge-Hall-Neal 1-2 punch. Absolutely dangerous.

Or imagine a Hall-Drai-McDavid line. Omg.

They’re all coke heads lets not kid ourselves. Bunch of young 20 some year olds traveling across the country together. They were in NYC on a Friday while riding a four game heater. They sure weren’t all going to spend their night watching CBC The National and going to sleep at 9 Pm and nothin’ cures a hangover like a little party salt... or so they say.

C'mon, man. In this day and age of cell phones everywhere, you think there wouldn't be more pics if coke use was really widespread as you say? Not saying some aren't riding the crazy train, but it ain't like you allude to

As has been referred to, I'm pretty sure that there were underlying reasons at play in that trade. However, a Taylor Hall with a great attitude and head screwed on straight would look pretty dang good on this team right now. I am pretty sure Ken Holland would have gotten a better return than P. Chiarelli.

Your 100% wrong. These players nowadays have strict diets and exercise that is second to none ! The drug of choice is video games. The amount of $ and available players from all around the world dictate the need to be in top physical shape. Cocaine is not a performance enhancer. The odd guy doing a line here and there is still a thing, but saying there’ll all coke heads is pure bull.

It's not a huge secret but guys also aren't out doing it in public to get recorded. Remember Kuznetsov seen in that video casually with just a couple lines on the counter? Or Jarrett Stoll getting charged with possession? Or Ryan Malone with the same? Or how about that Leafs prospect coming out and saying "Yeah, there's a lot of cocaine usage in the NHL/AHL"? Listen to the Spitten Chiclets podcast if you haven't (it's real funny). They never mention it, but from the ridiculous stories of the boozin' and partying they all did while in the Show, you'd be a fool for not guessing they aren't on the rails. Not to mention it's out of your system within a day or two that getting caught for it on a drug test is easy to avoid.

Anyway, sorry not really here nor there.

The Larsson-Hall trade is what it is, just me dreaming. Seemed to work out for the Oil in the 16-17 season. Perhaps not after that. I like Larsson quite a bit also.

Do you honestly think these guys aren't going out and partying anymore? Come on lol. Yes, they have strict diets and exercise programs, but they still party hard. Especially after big wins. You can guarantee the Oil boys were out tonight in NYC after a big W and 5-0 record. Hell, I've seen McDavid at Knoxvilles in Edmonton a few years ago (they literally sectioned off a part of the bar for him and his friends).
