Just an update on what to expect at these orientation sessions... we found it to be set up very well, the information was delivered quickly and in friendly manner. We had a full room and most of us hunters showed up early to get the permits done, with a handful of others showing up right at 730 or just after. All said and done, we were out of the orientation in under 1 hour.

Side note, where have all the elk gone?? Saw six moose on the walk in, and no elk lol

Nice to hear, I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm headed there this Saturday.

I’ve had that happen. Then one day they answer, try calling around 11:00am-1:00pm when they are in for lunch. Do they even have sessions this late in the season?

Whitetail
I did the orientation session in August there , had a convo with the officers there he was a good guy he was saying he wished theyd give out more moose tags because there’s a whack of them in there , for elk he said with aerial surveys there is a bout 175 elk in there ... and around the same with moose I believe he said , he was saying grouse numbers are on the low end of the cycle this year , but what I didnt talk to him about was the whitetail and how they are doing in the Blackfoot . He also said they got rid of a whack of wolves , so that’s good .
I went there with my 5 year old son for his first hunt and my first time in the Blackfoot hoping to blast a couple chickens , seen a good bull moose in there and called him right in was a good experience for the young lad . Anyways if anyone has experience hunting the blackfoot for whitetails and how the numbers are I’m Curious to know . Thanks .

In the 7 or 8 years I have hunted there, I have personally seen one small whitetail doe. This was after legal light on the drive out. They are definitely there, just very nocturnal from what my camera showed. I have seen a few decent mulie bucks but of course they are protected there. The grouse are definitely at a low peak in the last few years but the coyotes numbers are exceptionally high since they are protected as well. Although this year I have seen several that were thin so hopefully that means there is not enough food and they will move on to new areas. Come to think of it, I haven't seen a single rabbit this year either.
For the wolves, the story I kept hearing from multiple sources was a pack of six was spotted and only 5 were killed. 5 is better than none though.
I also heard a story that a cougar was spotted near the Blackfoot staging area. I got the impression that guy was BS'ing me though.

I have seen them in there from time to time, but I haven't been able to get within bow range of them yet.
