Default Leaving a truck at Willmore staging areas

Never had to leave a truck unattended for very long before. Will be doing a few scouting trips in the next 2 month in preparation for my first sheep hunt, just wondering if I need to be worried about thieves. Would be nice to be able to leave some backup gear, fresh clothes and maybe some non-perishable food in there.

Arrange to leave it at the lodge, if it is left in the staging area you will be lucky to have tires on it when you get back, let alone anything that was in it.

One time the only thing left was two tire marks spinning gravel.

Interesting. I’ve left my truck multiple times from 1 day to 11 days at different Willmore staging areas. Haven’t had a problem yet. Hope that trend continues. Would be a bummer, but not entirely surprising if it didn’t though.

Default Never Had A Problem.

Always a worry, though due diligence in not leaving stuff out in plain sight should be job one.

Know a lot of folks who long period stage off @ Willmore trail heads and not a one have experienced any theft or vandalism.

Creeky....

I wouldn't leave any thing valuable in it. Few stories around of guys having their trucks cleaned out while left. Be a bummer to find it's your turn.

The new world of crystal meth, other drugs and the craving for them. The guys are always looking for cash to buy more and pay their drug bill.

Glad some of you have been lucky. Best I can suggest, call the Grande Cache RCMP and see what the current experience is at the Rock Lake staging area. Pretty sure you will find a high rate of breakins and theft of the entire vehicle. To be fair, haven't been there in a few years but I doubt it has dropped. With Grande Cache's growing drug problem, and high unemployment rate my bet is it is getting worse. I never used to worry about leaving my truck parked or camp unattended on the side of a gravel road way back in the bush, now you have to lock up everything and leave a guard posted near by.

Hope I am wrong and best of luck to those of you parking at the trail heads.

It’s only a matter of time... Always good to have luck on your side.

Rock Lake is not near Grand Cache.

80 Klms to Hinton, 115 to Grande Cache. Only two towns of any size in the area, so where would you say it is close to. You think the Hinton drug and unemployment is any better? Have you just decided to argue about everything these days, whether it matters or not.? You may want to try an Enema, might make you feel better.

Rock lake has a history, one of the staging areas for the Willmore.

Have you considered having someone drop you off, and come back to pick you up? Parking it at a more secure location while you are on your multiple day trips.

Guess we have just been lucky-if a guy thought about it too much folk's would never get out. Overall, it's a numbers game and a roll of the dice.

Drove home once minus a window, nothing worth stealing in the truck. This was back in the late eighties.

Yes, I can clearly see by your post that I’m the one that’s miserable.

The truth of the matter is that just because you park at these staging areas doesn’t mean you will be a victim of something. Maybe you will be, but heaven forbid we listen to reason here.

I leave the doors unlocked and stash my phone and valuables somewhere outside the vehicle.
