Question Bore guides for gun cleaning... brands?

as some of my recent questions have shown.. I'm collecting equipment to take care of my rifles better.

Can anyone recommend a good quality hassle free bore guide? I understand some are for only certain sizes... And will have to buy additional bore guides for different calibers sizes.

Another question.... what's are my choices for my bolt action Savage 210F... 12 Gauge slug gun? Buy a bore guide for 50 BMG and matching cleaning rod? lol.

Default Bore Guide

Take a look at T. K. Nolan. He custom builds you a bore guide, nice guy, easy to deal with, but there not cheep.

I have various brands of bore guides, made from different materials, and all work well, but some seem better suited to different actions than others. I find the bore guides that are made for specific bore sizes, and cartridges, tend to be much better than the generic ones. As for Savage actions, I don't own any, so I can't make a suggestion for that specific application.

I don't know if they make it for your gun but I am really pleased with the quality of the dewey cleaning rods and guides.

I would say, Mike Lucas bore guides but when I ordered my last one (less than a year ago) he said the hassle of shipping even a bore guide out of the U.S. was getting ridiculous.
I have since heard that he no longer ships to Canada, which is too bad.
I also have a few different Dewey bore guides and their alright.

Like LongDraw said, cartridge/chamber specific

The Lucas also is built specific to the rod you'll be using.

The Lucas bore guide is great, only bettered by T.K. Nolan.

Probably a stupid question, but why not just drill out the back of a case push it in the camber run your rod thru it, and when your done put the bolt in and extract the case?

Because most damage is done to the lands where the bullet first makes contact. If I am correct the bore guide will make sure that nothing other then the jag with a patch or the brush is the only thing to touch it. A spent casing with a hole drilled in the end probably wouldn't give you a positive enough fit to prevent this.

TipTon makes some weird contraption.. that holds the patch for you and the Jag catches it as you pass it through the rear of this unit after applying solvent to the patch. Seen it at wholesale sports the other day

I bought the tipton bore guide kit, seems to work just fine! Cheap and multi purpose.

I use the Tipton kit as well. The solvent port keeps solvent from landing on the stock. Works well.

http://www.battenfeldtechnologies.co...-kit&tab=video

It screams cheap but looks like it works...

wonder if it can be used for .17 cal right up to the big girls?

Also noticed in the video there is a TipTon jag kit it seems... havent seen that on a store shelf

Thats the one I am using and it seems to do the trick ...never tried another bore guide before so I really have nothing to compare it to.
The bottle catcher thingy I just wrap a piece of paper towel around the barrel end then stuff a bottle on....works great catches the patches and when running a brush through it contains the splatter from the solvents.

I have a generic (multi cartridge, multi action) dewey guide that is ok and also have sinclair delrin guides which I like. For your savage 210F I suggest phoning Sinclair Intl. and tell them what you have and supply them with a measurement or two and they will have a qaulity delrin guide on it's way to your door.

by generic.. do you mean, like the ones labeled .17-22 or 6mm to 30cal?

I see a couple different variety of Sinclairs online..

a plastic tube style...

and some kind of adjustable

http://www.sinclairintl.com/.aspx/pi...ble_Rod_Guides

which is the one people on here are talking about?

I have yet to see any in the stores in Edmonton. Thinking online oredering is only option for better quality?

James Calhoon makes a nice one for the .20 Cal and others. I have used it for four years without issue.
