My friend has an oldish browning lever action .22, one of my favorite .22's too shoot, behind my 10-22. I would pay 150 for it if i was you. My cousin has a new henry .22, with a tubular mag and it is ppain to load, if you load it to where you can just see the first round the rod wont go down all the way, it isnt this way with my friends browning. We never have had it jam on us and it seemed pretty accurate to. Plus it is a nice looking gun.

Try cycling a few rounds through it and see if it jams. They are a little more complicated than a bolt action but as long as lever actions are clean they typically work very well.

As long as there is nothing wrong with it mechanically, (ie: it shoots and cycles) that is a heck of a deal. I have been reading up no the bl22's lately and almost everyone to a T says they are awesome. With many people saying things like my dad gave me one when I was a kid and it's still my fave. They sell for 529 for a plain jane model today.

I'd feel kinda guilty getting it for 150 actually.

I have a BL-22 that is about 25-30 yrs old, a really great little rifle. I wouldn't part with mine for less than $350....new I think they are running close to $500, but as someone mentioned, from what I have seen the older ones are nicer (better fit/finish, machining, walnut). If your friend really wants to give it away for $150, he's gonna have a new best friend at least!

Default bl 22

Snap it up! My first gun that I eve "bought" was a BL -22. I was 10 years old and traded a pair of roller skates for it. That gun was really fun and accurate. I regret sellling it to this day.

Only 22 I liked better than the BL22 was the bolt action Browning, and only because it was easier to load fast when into lots of gophers or on a grouse.
I put 10.000 rds thru the lever action and never had a problem with it.
Good gun, and 150.00 is a good deal.

A lot of people that hunt or trail ride on horseback like the lever actions because they hold up better in a scabbard. For some reason horses just love to lean up against trees when you have a $2000 rifle hanging on the saddle!

That's how my Model 70 got a crack in the stock. The horse was a beautiful and gentle animal but he still got an earful when I heard the *crack!*.

My father in law passed all of his guns on to me, one was a Browning lever 22. Not too sure how old it is but it is in really nice shape and functions great! It is a lot of fun, I almost like shooting it as much as my semi auto 22!

Good luck with your new gun when you get it.

It's a pre-64 and it was the original stock too, so yes I wasn't pleased. The horse (of course) was doing what horses do; which was pretty well ignoring my temper tantrum. Of course the good ole' boys were just killing themselves... But they stopped laughing when I filled my tag despite the cracked stock and they didn't lol!

Yes I would grab that in a heartbeat for $150.00. I bought the deluxe one new in 1980 for my dad (I have it now). It is a great little gun. I have seen the used deluxe models go for over $400.00 .

Thumbs up Bl22

Grouse Assassin I have had mine for 38 years this summer.
I can't even guess at the amount of lead that has passed through the pipe on this thing.
I have had to replace the extractor on it once about 10 years ago. It has no finish left on the wood it has been handled so much.

I shot with it my sister shot with it my brother shot with it, I taught three kids and 1 grandkid to shoot with it. They were hands down the best gun ever built. The throw of the lever is really short.
If you have shot a Henry and I like the way they handle you will love that little Browning.

Ken.

Remember that the lever system of the gun runs on a railed gear system.

I hope the gears are in reasonably good condition.
