Thumbs down Korth group warranty- Leupold. Happily resolved.

I had to send in a scope for warranty, and thought I would phone, see if there were any updates.

Shortest conversation ever with 0 information received, other than horrible snotty attitude.

"good morning Korth group"

Hi I sent in a scope to be repaired on ---date--- and was wondering if you had any update for me?

"It likely is not here yet.

I am from Alberta, it was sent express, 2 day delivery

did you trace it?"

Yes it was received 2 weeks ago

"we haven't seen it yet, call closer to the end of the week"

But I haven't even given you my name? How do you know....

"*sigh* "Sir if there is a problem we will let you know, if not we just send it back. Call again the end of the week" click

Nice attitude. Wow. I am sure they were not that ignorant last time I called

Strange, I had always heard such good things about their service. Shame that's the way it seems to be at most places these days.

Not a lot annoys me like this kind of attitude. I have no idea why or how these people with this kind of attitude have anything to do with the public.

I've dealt with Korth before and was happy with the transaction. I tend to make my opinions known very clearly to whoever is topdog in these cases.

Yeah, for all the good things I've heard about Korth, my only dealing with them was poor as well due to receiving bad information from them. My rangefinder wasn't working properly, contacted them, girl on the phone says 'send it in', so I do. 4 weeks later, it shows up with a note attached saying Leupold electronics aren't covered past one year, so sorry, and still broken.

OK, fair enough, the girl on the phone should have told me that, but also they could have called me and let me know this, and then still asked if I wanted it repaired at my expense instead of just shipping it back.....poor communication. I never did get it repaired, got a pair of Leica Geovids instead.

Default tood sucks

And they are the only game in town,
and we have to put up with that kinda service too.
I wonder if it is worth the effort to put a trace on the pkg.
After all they did say they didnt have it and your info says otherwise.

New rules? Have they changed something?

The last one I sent in was in and out, no troubles, but I did not have to go through the 'screener' lady, one of the guys picked up and was great.

My dealing with Bushnell was awful, many months before anything happened.

So for me as far as warranty is concerned Bushnell is out, Leupold is going out, who does that leave that sells a decent yet fair priced scope?

Might be the excuse I need to sell everything and quit hunting.

Default korth

I had good sevice from them when i sent a broken scope in. Fast service and it was shipped fast etc. However, I was interested in getting a custom reticle in one of my scopes, checking on the website gave pretty vague description on what kind of info they need and what the reticle can do etc. So i phoned, they couldn't tell me anything so passed me through to the tech. They were busy so no answer. So I left a message. No reply, tried again a few times, no reply... Fair enough I guess, they are busy. So i mailed a letter with my ph. #, mailing address, and e-mail asking if they cold send me some more info and outlined what scope model etc that I wanted to have done. Still no reply, I wonder how a guy is supposed to get this info. I'm sure someone must know. It's just a pain when they have that 'too busy' attitude as mensioned. Oh well, maybe i'll just send it in and see what happens????

Give their Dad a shout and explain it to them. I would imagine that they would be interested in seeing how they are being represented North of the border.

Have you had bad service from them?

Personally, I've only dealt with them once. Took in my scope for an adjustment, had it back in my hands via Canada Post the same week. Awesome.

I lost the turret caps on my Leupold. I called them up and I had a free set in about a week........no complaints here.

As far as the lasksidasical attitude of the receptionist, everyone has their off day but she is representing the company she works for and she needs to smarten up. I wouldn't judge the whole company based on her and I'm sure if management were aware of it she'd get....... Maybe sending a complaint detailing what occurred would be appropriate.

I find it ironic that many people choose to purchase Leupold because of their warranty.

I bought it because it was exactly what I was looking for, high magnification 50mm objective and side focus, but made the mistake if buying it online without looking through first.

Likely last time for that.

Bought a rangefinder from Cabelas in the US 2 yrs ago. Sent it in with a note. Brand new rangefinder showed up in less than 2 weeks. Works much better than the old one.

Nice. Wish they had done that for me, especially as I bought mine here in Canada and it was only 3 yrs old.

They only warranty scopes that are purchased from specific retailers.

That's weird Ken. This summer I sent in my bino's after I broke them with a note stating what was wrong and if it wasn't warrantable to fix it anyhow and I would pay for the repair. Week later they sent me a new pair of bino's.

Consensus seems to be that they are generally pretty good, but like any business fall down once in a while.

Dealt with them a lot both for my own orders and modifications and stuff for the store when I was there and always had first class service.
I wouldnt confuse a single instance of a person who appears to be screening or deferring calls to the service usually given. Tony is only working a couple days a week (tech) but I understand he is like the Maytag repairman always looking for stuff to do and get it out of the shop quickly. In my experience you should have the scope back by next week!

Thumbs up

Update!

I got a very surprising call today from Mr. Korth. He introduced himself, told me that a dealer had read the thread, and sent copy of it to him.

It went something like;

"Hi Ken, I would assume that you are the guy that authored the thread on a forum about us...."

'Yes sir, that was me.'

"I wanted to thank you for bringing this to our attention, if we do not hear about these things we are of course unable to address them. We have had a staff meeting, the lady you spoke to is absolutely not normally like that, and said she was having a bad day. I would like to apologize, and hope you are happy when your scope gets back to you"

'I really appreciate that, I wish I would have called you instead of putting it on here, but honestly when I could not get through who I assumed was Mrs. Korth to talk to an employee, I thought there would be no chance of talking to a manager or certainly not the owner.....'

All in all, we had a great chat, he apologized as did I, we discussed how he should talk with us on the forum as the WSS managers do, and ended a very pleasant phone call. I am very happy with the end result and candid nature of Mr. Korth, but I think next time I will call the store first. I generally do.
