I just got back last Thursday and we caught a ton of fish. No big Gerrard's but lots of rainbows within the 18"- 22" range.....lots of fight in them.
We are catch and release folks so they are still there.
Lots of Squaw fish as well.

The smoke was really bad for our last 3 days. So much that we could not see the where the lake ended and the mountains started, hence we came home.

If anyone in your party has breathing problems; My wife had to wear a paper face respirator just to combat the conditions. There was ash all over the boat and my vehicles.
We were at the north end, past Kaslo.

Good luck....oh yeah, and pay attention to the BC registered motorists as they very much lack driving common sense and patience..... IMHO

The big fire at Kootenay Lake is up Harrop Creek on the south side of the West Arm, now reported over 2100 Hectares. There are other fires north of the lake too.
No wonder the smoke is bad.
