People run some fairly big boats around there. The reservoir is a big warm body of water, and popular for waterskiing. (On warm years people even waterski on Christmas Day)

Yup. Even the river portion up to the bridge is open and warm in January. Great outdoor winter swimming.
That's my backyard. If you going up towards the dam from big knife you are fine just gotta follow the channel which is hard to follow from big knife to 855. From there to the bridge at the power plant pretty much a straight shot then after that bridge it gets snakey again towards the dam. As far as towards the 53 highway west it's nice and deep for a bit but watch for kayak and canoes. We run to the dam with a 150 wide open but we know the way. Fishing is horrible this summer. Good luck and be careful it is a long way back to the launch at big knife with no cell service. Been in a bind down there myself.
