Default What you see out the Bay

Today i decided to put my boat in the water and head out the Bay from my house. I have lived here 7 yrs but have never boated here i always go over by the father inlaws. Well what a surprise we all had with icebergs everywhere and Humpback whales all over. Here is a short video the wife took with her cellphone, i am kicking myself for not taking the Go Pro with me. Some were as close as 10 feet or less at times. Needless to say the wife and kids had a fantastic time.
One thing i learned to day is whale breath stinks!!

Here is a youtube link

Here are a couple of pics there are only 2 different Icebergs here just different views.
This first one was grounded in 300ft of water

That's the part about home that I truly miss, the scenery. Grew up with so much on our doorstep.

Great pics.

Which Bay are you in, it must be on the east side of the Rock.

Cool , a fun and unique experience for sure . This being an Alberta form , and with most us being from Alberta , I expected from your heading , that your were probably in a lake in the Northern part of the province , you were going to show us a moose on the shoreline , maybe even a squatch ha ha ,
guess I was wrong. Ok , I'm a born & raised Calgarian, never been further East than Flin Flon Mb. so a couple of questions that I have would be ...
If you have lived there for 7 years and never known of icebergs and whales being so close , how far out did you have to go ?
the second question is ...that in the video , it appears that one of the whales seems to staying pretty much still and slapping his/her tail three times, any idea what that means ?

This was taken in Bonavista bay. I live on Clode sound and it was 14-15 miles from where i live. I am from NL but i have only lived here in this area for 7 yrs. Usually i only put my boat in the saltwater is when the Cod fishing is open and then i go to the father in laws on Random sound. This year there are a lot of Icebergs all around the Bonavista peninsula. We went out today but only saw a few whales but nothing like yesterday.
I have no idea why they slap their tale.
