Default On wabamun

Hit the town of wab trying to get on the ice. Holy foggy, guys were walking on.
Clear as a bell at fallis, beautiful day. Only one bite so far, gf was trying to set up the rod to start fishing and missed it.

Well, that was a rough day but still fun. More bait stolen than one can shake a stick at, lost 4 fish and finally managed a small one (4 to 5 pounds) to the ice. Have a pic, not worth posting it for the size. Started chopping the smelts in half, think they were grabbing the head or tail and running.

Nice when you misplace the pliers and have to pull the jig head using fingers. Blood on the ice, fingers shredded.

I was at the town today too. Really slow. Had three flags but only one landed. Was a decent size. Had the jaw jacker go off twice but nothing. I have only caught one pile on that thing and missed probably 10

Pretty foggy around the town yesterday morning, didn't want to take the chance driving on when you can't see if there's people or tents around.

Girlfriend doesn't want to handle pike, she keeps taking pics of my bleeding fingers for reassurance I guess. The fish was fine, but he took one roll in the snow.

lol for a "Doctor" you may want to invest in a first aid kit...have at least a couple bandaids handy!

I fished Wabamun on Saturday, was my slowest day there too. Couldn't get a Whitefish, for some reason everytime one came in a jack guarded the lure! I ended up with 4 jacks and 4 perch.

Keep an eye on the unerside of your forearm on the hand which was cut by the teeth, if you see streaky red get to the hospital.

Based on your pictures and story, I would bet that pliers will not be misplaced again anytime soon. In fact, bet they are the first item loaded.

Congrats on the pike.

The Silverdoctor was one of my favorite flies for the salmon rivers back in Newfie, the blue charm was my go to but that's kind of feminine for a forum name. That's the only doctor in me I can never remember a small first aid kit.

Bit of blood isn't unusual with me, fair game I guess, I catch it, it bites me.

You caught more than I did but it was still a beautiful day to enjoy, catching is just the icing on the cake. Any size to the perch?

I went and put an extra pair of needle nose pliers in my tackle box! Thanks for the safety reminder. I also refreshed the first aid kit I keep in the pick up.

Haha oh, that's where the name comes from. Guess you can tell I'm a newb, especially when fly fishing is concerned. Yeah, I got some really nice underwater videos, mostly of me losing fish...darn it! One of the perch I caught was half-decent actually - 20 or 21 cm, but pretty fat...would be a smaller one for Gull but a decent one for Wabamun...lol...with my limited experience anyway.

Dang! Good thing you only caught one, or else your fingers would look like hamburger. Real tough retrieving a hook from a pike without pliers.

Stupid Newfie one for you...

First time I ever fished for pike was at Fawcett lake, did lots of fishing in Ontario but always targeted bass. Ex GF was with us in the boat, she wouldn't touch a fish to save her life, first one she reeled in was a 10 pounder. I had a wet towel laid out for hook removal and releasing. Got the fish to the towel, the jig was deep in the mouth. Learned the hard way that pike had sharp teeth both in the mouth and in the gills that day

Stuck my fingers in it's open mouth, slid a couple more into the open gills trying to get the hook out and this thing chomped down. Picture a full grown man squat down on the bow of a boat with both hands stuck in a fish. Blood was pouring out of this fish - I know i'm not hurting this fish, took a bit to realize it was my own blood when the pain set in. 2 hands stuck in this pike, it's thrashing around, my buddy was laughing his arse off when he realized what I had done, he had to rescue me. Never lived that one down, this thing shredded my fingers.
