Maybe they were poaching and someone threw them and their plane into a lake?

Helped out in that air search for 2 weeks (sheesh!!..was it really almost 30 yrs. ago???!!!!). Informal conclusion was they went down in a lake and the plane stayed intact and got snagged on debris. But no Oil slick/fuel seen....Nothing....Weird???..If I recall correctly there was 5 or 6 private planes that continued daily for awhile after the RCMP called off their official search...but nothing...he was a well liked guy and successful....

There are several planes that have gone missing in Alberta and never found. If you ever come across an old wreck out in the bush contact FSS or search and rescue. There was one that was missing for around 10 years that was found by a hunter out near the Little Smoky tower.

If I recall correctly, the Trottiers plane went down in a storm ,snow or rain can't remember. I have always wondered what happened in that crash!
I know it's a long shot but when I am in the Kakwa/Jarvis Lakes area this July, I will have them on my mind.

Bingo, you got it, this is what he is trying to link together, after the Sasquatch thread.

I would prefer another lady gaga thread.

Default plane down

It sucks when you hear about stuff like this, mind you there is lots of thick country between fox creek and prince george to loose a small plane in. One of the guys on board was married to a close family friend of my parents, they found a wreck a couple years ago that they thought was this one but it turned out to be a different wreck. Who knows if it will ever be found.

It would be ironic to find it in the Jarvis lake area as this is a SAR training area! Finding a downed aircraft in the foothills/mountains/forest is very difficult. The needle in the haystack. A search is based on known info and probabilities. Factor in a pilot taking a short cut off a vfr route to save fuel/time, unserviceable ELT or going off course etc throws a big curve ball into an organized ground and air search, not to mention the fact that sometimes, people WANT to disappear.....But Backpacker, you are right to keep your eyes open for any possibility. Remember Martin Hartwell...."Welcome to the camp of the cannibal"!

I do not know the whole story but a friend of my dad's (Maynard Bolem) was a pilot in the 1940's who went missing and if I remember right it was in Alberta. The were a lot of stories and speculation about what happened but nothing untill a few years ago. His plane and remains were found. It appears that the plane went down in heavy bush and the trees folded over on top of the plane and hid it for years. Maybe someone hear can recall this and comment.

LOL! Just a very vague recollection. But I do know one of the first Pararescueman who parachuted to the crash site and was welcomed by Mr Hartwell. I also know a crewman that has searched for MH three times at various different times. He could only get jobs flying freight, no pax after his famous crash!!
The military SAR community have a unofficial trophy called the "M. Hartwell trophy" for the person that crashes the farthest off course each year! Kind of sick but black humour is a staple in that field!

my parents were good friends with both of the trotter brothers(there were others as well) who died in that crash.
Ive heard about this story most of my life. They left in a snow storm to go to an action somewhere in b.c.
I will get the rest of the info and let you know tomorrow.

Default Missing plane late 70's

Hoping someone remembers a crash that happened in the area west of Red Deer cop and north of Sundre. A small passenger plane disappeared in the winter months. I was a young kid and still have memories of the search. More to the story but that will come later.

Any suggestions where to look for the information? Sent an email to Transport Canada but haven't heard back yet.

I lived 4 years in Fox Creek before coming up here to the Peace Country...there was pictures of these people in the Curling Club who were in that plane...many of my friends in that town knew these guys very well....they were all very well respected and a great asset to that town while they were alive...they are sadly missed in that town.

Hmm... don't know about that one. If you've already sent a question to TC, not sure where else you could go.

My only suggestion would be, join up on AvCanada and post the question on the forum there. Lots of idiots on that forum but sometimes someone has the info you are looking for.
