Default Generators

Looking to get an emergency electric generator for the farm yard and barns ..what is your recommended make ?
Generac seems popular but is a probable one year wait ,Ive heard Cummins makes a good one and my supplier tells me 6-8 wks ..any others strike your fancy ?

I have a 17kw Honeywell (rebranded generac) from Costco on nat gas.
If you check the Facebook forums I have seen lots for sale there.

I've been thinking the same thing. Our power has already been out twice this short warm winter. Was thinking maybe a welder would be good. Be able to pull double duty with that

Posting your power requirements and fuel preferences would be helpful.

There's lots of decently priced high KW diesel 3 phase units for sale. Run the yard through a three to 3 phase converter, and you're golden. And you'd be able to buy 3 phase equipment as well. 3 phase equipment is generally a lot cheaper used, and generally better built for anything you'd get.

I looked at the power draw of the biggest items- freezer, dryer, oven a/c and what it took on startup, and the Amp size of the breaker. Then converted amps to watts and added them up.

This unit will run everything at once without breaking a sweat. Also I have all electronics on battery UPS so when the generator fires up it doesn't have to deal with startup spikes.

An electrician would be a better guy to ask, but this worked for me. My shop is on the same circuit.
