I came across a couple wingy dingies today, probably little browns, and saw something interesting. does anyone know who is doing research on bats in southern Alberta?
Or is this a new strain being airmailed from China
Ive tagged a bunch of dinosaurs but never ear tagged a bat, I was pretty excited to see it. Id like to pass on the location if I know where to send it.

I got a reply back on the bat I photoed not as exciting as an ear tag but still interesting.
"Hi Wayne -- that's an excellent observation of a Silver-haired Bat. They are long-distance migrants, and may be headed to their summer range from wintering grounds in the US or British Columbia. The colour on its ears isn't a marking but rather a cluster of ectoparasites. I believe it's some type of mite. Not sure the species, but this resource calls something similar as 'chigger mite larva':"
