Default This month

I doubt very many noticed but I have backed away from this site.

I still believe there are a lot of good people here and one can make a positive difference in some peoples lives here. But for me it's not worth it any more.

There is too much division, too much arguing, too much denial.
Too many too quick to discredit what other people say, even though they often have no understanding of the subject matter being discussed.

So I have chosen to spend my time doing things that are more satisfying for me.
Recently, This past month, that has been photography.

So for my friends here and for the good people who come here to contribute rather then tear others down I decided to share some of the photos I have taken in the past month.

I hope you all enjoy the pictures.

The ducks are jumpy after spending the winter down south.

Bald Eagle, a one year old.

Common Goldeneye Ducks mating. It is that time of year.

Ring Necked Pheasant in my back yard.

The Red Tailed Hawks are back

Canada Geese doing a low fly by. It was late in the day so not the best photo, but too good an opportunity to let pass.

An as yet unidentified species of bird eat under my feeders.

A Purple Finch and a Junco arguing over who gets the seed.

A Purple Finch checking out my yard.

You and Patti need to be healthy, everything else is inconsequential right now.

You take care, don't be a stranger, and those are great pics Jim.

A few more photos from this month.

Now that the ducks are back they wind up being my most frequent subject, because they are so available and so colorful.

This is a Shoveler Duck.

I and my friend found over 14 Eagles at this one location. There were seven in this one tree, the rest were further back or circling overhead.

A Great Blue Heron in a small drainage just north of Manning. We don't see very many of these up here.

At first I wondered if I would ever find where the Sharptails were dancing this year, and then one day there they were, and they let me drive up to right beside them. Made my day.

Sharptail Grouse dancing Hawk Hills Alberta

Sharptail Grouse dancing

We see more Trumpeter Swans then Tundra Swans but we do get both species. However it is easier to get close to the Trumpeters.

This one is a Trumpeter Swan.

We also get both species of Redpoll

The one on the left is a Hoary Redpoll, the one on the right is a Common Redpoll

Last but not least is a Ruffed Grouse.
My friend mentioned that she had never heard them drumming so I set out to not only find her one so she could hear them drum, but I thought I could get her close enough to photograph one actually drumming.

Wouldn't you know it, all I could find was one female.

Female Ruffed Grouse.

I have come to respect you a lot.

We may disagree from time to time but you never tear me down to gain a point. That is worthy of great respect.

Glad to see you still making the odd post

Like the pheasant photo, I don't see too many of them around.

We are both doing much better, and be assured we both know you would be there for us if we needed it.

You are a good man Ken, I am glad to have met you.

But don't keep the coffee on, we don't get down that way very often and with the gun shows all canceled it looks like we won't be going far for a long time yet.

If you get the chance to come up I would do my best to get you close to them while they dance.
So far I have had pretty good luck doing just that. I got my friend from Calgary up close and personal with them last spring a few times and again this spring.

I had seen them dance many times over the years but that was the first time I took someone with me to watch them, it was a thrill for both of us.

She has posted some awesome videos of them dancing, on a facebook page called Birds in Alberta.
If you haven't seen them dance her videos show it pretty well.

And like I said, I'd do my best to get you where you could make such a video yourself.

Great pics KEG.

The most important thing is your wife's health and yours, do every thing in your power to keep moving out and about.

Being online is poor for the health and the negative stuff is even harder on the health, plus your body isn't in motion.

Remember that old saying ,a body in motion stays in motion.

Wish you and your wife all the best in health and keep that camera going, excellent photo's .Hell of a lot more fun taking pics then arguing about antibodies or other crap .

ALL THE BEST

Will never forget you & I having breakfast together in Spruce Grove. It was a memorable time. Don't let a few bad apples ruin it for you. There is always the ignore feature. Great pics & so happy to hear you & yours are doing better. Being outdoors this time of year is refreshing. Cheers. Glen

Awesome pictures Please keep them coming. This is one thread we should all be able to enjoy. I've never seen a purple finch before. I did see a mountain blue bird the other day hopefully I can get a photo like yours to share. Lots of talented photographers here to keep this going.

We do keep on motion, all be it slow motion. LOL

Best wishes to you and yours as well.

The camera is only half the story. Bird watching is the other half.

Twenty years ago I would have laughed at the thought. But it is fascinating when you get into it. That's what sisters are for.

They are so colorful and so varied. I had no idea how a bird the size of a Chickadee could survive a week of -40 weather or why a Duck goes south.
Now I know and the answers surprised me.

Best of all it's something I can do and will be able to do for years to come.

That was a day I will never forget. I had such a great time.
It was like visiting a life long friend.

I loaded up a box of those Imperial cartridges, just to have some vintage ammo in my collection.

Cool pics Keg. I gotta admit I’m a bit envious of how much you’re getting out and what you’re seeing.

I bought some trail cam mounts off you at one of the last gun shows in Fort McMurray. I was getting all my gear ready a few days back so I pulled them out of their packaging and I’m going to give them a good try this year.

Cheers.

Good for you sir! One of the best things for my sanity is to stay completely removed from threads that go nowhere and just keep wrapping around in a 100% predictable loop with all the same old parties saying the same old things with zero change of mind or acknowledgement of valid differing opinions.

Stick to what is fun and/or informative!

Nice shots!
