Default A rough couple of days for the dog...

Yesterday, he must have run into a stick or something. He has a graze below his eye and he lost his tags. Today, we were out for a short hike, and he went into some bushes and came out with quills. His first encounter with a porcupine. Fortunately, they weren't deep, but I had to put him in a headlock while I pulled them out. He's feeling a bit sorry for himself.

That looks damn painful. Only had to pull quills a couple times, luckily they've never been too deep. Looks like he'll be OK and chasing skunks in no time.

Oh, he will. he's tough. I'm just hoping he learned something from the porky experience.

Yeah, 3 weeks ago. He's pretty quick. I expect he probably jumped back when he realized something was up and just caught a glancing blow. I'm hoping we're done with incidents like this (thankfully, all turned out to be fairly minor) for a while.
He turns 1 on Wednesday. We're going to go out and find some Chukars.

Ouch, poor guy. Hope he learned to steer clear. Some dogs never do.

Default Quills

I hope he feels better soon, sounds like a rough week.

I had a Rottie/Shepard x who never learned, she thought it was just way too much fun to hunt Porkies, and bring them home.

I don't know how many times me and the mini vise grips had to pull quills.

My Lab just knows not to get too close, when we see them, he just ignores them.

Default Make sure that you got all of them.

There may be one or two in his mouth, the hardest ones to find are along side his lower jaw. That one took anesthetic to remove a week or two later.

Thats what it looks like to me. He would of got dozens of quills in him if he intentionally went at it.

Least he learned while he is still young to stay away. (hopefully)
I am sure he will have a blast. I have my fingers crossed there will be no more incidents too!
