Range Report
I made a trip to the range this morning, and things went pretty well.
First off my 270WSM finally got new glass on it, I mounted a 4-16x40 4200 Elite Bushnell on it(thanks Higginson), and set up to continue my load developement with the 130gr. Accubond's.
I settled on a stout load of IMR 4831 which yeilded and average velocity of 3325fps, and plunked 5 shots into 0.8"@ 100yds.
Second up was the newest acquisition, my 1977 vintage 1894 Marlin in 44 Rem. Mag. I had a box of white box Winchester 240's to crank through her, they clocked out at 1720fps from the lever guns 20" barrel, and I managed to keep 9 out of 10 on a 12" gong at 200yds(factory iron sights), simply amazing, although I had close to 10" drop at that range.
I re sighted my 17HMR after donating the scope to do the first bit of load development on the 270WSM. This $300.00 LH Savage 9317 is one of the best investments I ever made, if the winds are permiting I've rung 200yd groups into 1.25" with this rifle, and 1/2" 100yd groups are not too uncommon. But if a mouse pass wind down range those little 17 grain pills will move quite a bit.
Lastly was a zero confirmation with the 25'06, I'm taking this rig to Ft. Mac. for their Rifle Rodeo, and with the distances being mostly sub 300yd. this year I'll stick with my home brewed 75gr. V-Max's, and they did'nt disappoint at all, I ran 3 seprerate 3 shot groups today all hovering in the 0.5" size @ 100yds.
I was quite amazed with the beutiful but maybe a tad to hot of weather there was only one other shooter who made it out today. He's a regular to "Sunday Services", even though he comes all the way from Edmonton.

Sounds like a good day at the range!
I'm still working a load for my 270wsm with 140 accubonds, plus I've got some TSX's in 130 & 140 to try out. Mostly using IMR4350, also need to use up some H4350, then I've got some 7828 to try out.
Good to see you shooting the new marlin, sounds like its a pretty good shooter.

When I was asking around about powder choices for the 270WSM, the 4350's did'nt get a whole lot of mention.
H4831 and RL22 got lots of thumbs up as did Magpro(Accurate) I did'nt have any H4831 and Rl 22 is such a PITA to get reliably, and Magpro is'nt authorized to be sold out of the US yet. I had a fair amount of the IMR 4831 so I gave her a try, and gee whiz it worked good.
And yes that 44 lever gun is a hoot, 10 rounds fit in the magazine, and man does it smack the heck out of that gong at 200yds, suprising since its only carrying about 680ftlbs of energy that far out.

Not hardly.
Those fellers in Ft. Mac. Can shoot that's for sure.
Gonna have to make every pull of the trigger count.
Sounds easy don't it.

Another Sunday at the range....geez I miss those.
How longs the bbl on the 270wsm? Wonder how thats gonna stack up against my 28"chr? I'm thinking your still gonna have about 100-125 fps on me.... Heck with it, I'm sticking to the plan..... But I could go with the wsm, the standard 26" bbl and keep the AOL and weight down... just a hair. ... Naw..then I got more brass, more dies, more powder, more work...stick to the plan.
I'll have some of those 300's ready when you get up this way...maybe a 500.... just for "kicks".
I hear you been working on the younger.... needs more range time, skills are getting rusty, gonna whip his B--T next match. Keep it up, he'll drag me out to the range......
Good luck in FMcM, wish I could get there..my shooting's not any better, but it was a great trip last time.
