There are several good waxes on the market, Howard's Feed'n'Wax is one, I have used Johnson's for many years on the whole rifle, barrels and all.

Used a 700 in 7-08 for many years, for almost everything, only thing not shot with it were sheep, goats, bears and caribou. But, like Cat, I bought one to finish things out with, a Krieghoff sxs in 30R Blaser.

I live in St. Albert, just called the Home Hardware in Morinville they had two bottles so they but on aside for me I will pick it up later.
Do you just follow the instructions on the bottle or do you apply it a special way. Would sure like to get my rifle and shotgun looking as AMAZING as yours does!
Thanks again!

How do you like that 260? I have t3 in 3006 but it kicks like a mule being very light and short barrel.

My main and 'big' rifle is a Fierce Edge in 7RM with leupold Vx-6. If I expect to do a lot of walking or be in the woods I have a tikka compact lite in 243 with leupold 3-9 ultralight.
Used to have a Robinson Arms XCR-M in 308 and XCR-L in 6.8 I thought I'd hunt with, but for a number of reasons decided I prefer a bolt action for hunting over any of the semi's I'm aware of. Never did get the chance to take a deer with one of which is too bad, but did knock down a few coyotes.

Used to swear by the 270 win but caught the 6.5 bug so now its the 6.5 Creedmoor in a Weatherby Vanguard,Usally a 129gr LRAB but going to use the 130 Accubond this year.
7mmRem Mag Ruger M77 168gr LRAB for the far ones.Try to keep it in the backseat just in case, but the 6.5 usally does the trick.

Just thought I'd revive this thread and see what folk are using these days.
For me it's a Savage American Classic in .270 with a Leupold VX1 3-9. This gun has taken deer every year since I started using it 8 or 9 years ago. Nothing exotic, but it does the job.

I have a few,
1904 CarlGustaff Mauser 6.5x55Swede, 26inch barrel
1953 Husqvarna CrownGrade ultra lite .270 Win 24in bbl
Custom built SS .348 Win 24in bbl
Ruger m77 .338 WinMag 24 in bbl
Vintage Mosin Nagant Sniper version in 7.62 Russian 4xscope , 29 in bbl
1962 Remington 700 in .270 Win , 24 in bbl
All of these kill deer with authority out to 300 meters , except for the .348 Win that I keep inside 200 yards because of trajectory, not killing energy
I have a .243 win Model 70 from the early 60,s , a tack driver but refuse to shoot deer with it, after devastating damage to several deer , but it did kill a 800 pound cow elk perfectly just 2 weeks ago, 1 shot
But they all kill deer just fine if you do your job as a shooter
But I do admire most the 1904 6.5x55 Swede and the 1953 Husqvarna .270 Win . Both incredible calibers and rifles

Depends where and what other stuff I'll likely come across.
In farmland, probably Cooper/280AI. In general bush, Kimber/300WM with slightly shortened bbl. Mountains, grizz country maybe the 340Wby or 375HH depending how tight/congested the trees get. All with Noslers or Grand Slams.
Closest I ever got to buying it during hunting was getting charged head-on by a big-racked whitetail. I first popped him in the chest at relatively close range with a 340/250gn when he was strutting around with his lady-friends. He whirled 90 degrees in an instant and came straight at me at full run. After a second or so of disbelief, I nailed him again in the shoulder & down he went. Breathing real hard through a football-sized hole in the chest. Made it to about 10 feet in front of me.
After something like that, sorry you'll never catch me out there with some rinky-dink 243 or 25-whatever.
