Default What's up with this moose leg?

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are about this cows leg?

could it be from ticks?

she does have some healthy looking twins.

I'd say ticks. Looks like both back legs have wounds.

It's a common disease on moose. I can't remember the name, it normally clears up by fall and doesn't taint the meat.

looks like moose flies to me. But the ones I have seen before are usually more open looking and wet.

I was thinking ticks, or possibly got hung up in some barb wire.

Default Moose

Flies bites, Soon as weather cools in fall, it will heal up.
We call them horse flies or bull dogs which come out in July. Deer flies or black flies may also cause some bites. Ticks happen in winter. Same thing every year

looks like old wounds being pesterd by flies whether caused by barb wire or getting bit(close encounter with wolves) or crossing a brush pile hard to tell ticks this time of year will be very small about half the size of a pin head. in November ticks are about twice the size of a pin head check neck shoulder area spread the hair under fur you will see them stuck too the skin

A wolf will pick away at the back legs to try and take a moose down.

Not ticks, but moose flies. See ESRD short blurb on this.
