Default Scope for a 7mm Remington Sendero

I just bought a 7mm in Remington Sendero. Wondering about opinions on a scope for this gun. I really want it for long range hunting, target etc so looking for something all around ideally. It my first "long range" rifle so also wondering what kind of customization I should do to this gun (if any). Thanks in advance

Zeiss hd5 5-25x50 with lock turrets and plex reticle. Id make sure the gun is free floated and maybe a new trigger if you don't like the one it's got.

New trigger (Timney, Trigger Tech, Jewell, Rifle Basix).

X2 on the timney trigger.
Go with a nightforce SHV or sightron SIII. They're both affordable and reliable.

Thumbs up

Take a look at the Burris lineup of scopes.

Great choice for target, for hunting the 3-15x44 is a better choice, as 15x is plenty for big game even at longer range, and 3x is much better for those close in shots that do occur.

That is the one that he was referring to. I have one 5-25x50 on a target rifle, and six of the 3-15x42s on hunting/varmint rifles, and they are an excellent scope. The lockplex is a well designed system in that the turrets are easily adjusted without having to remove any covers, yet it is very difficult to accidentally change the settings.

Default Scope

Look into Huskemaw. Best of the West TV show raves about them. Corlanes in Dawson Creek are a dealer. Good luck!

Yes that's the one I was referring too. And yes if it was purely a hunting rifle I would also go with the 3-15x42 but as you mentioned target is go to the 5-25. You can always leave it turned down for hunting. It's pretty tough to turn up a 3-15 to 25 for target shooting lol. Either way both good choices.

Yes the people that are selling them rave about them, the other people, not so much.

After looking through a few Huskemaw scopes, I prefer the Nikon Monarch for about 1/3 to 1/2 of the price.

Just one more quick question before I pull the trigger on a Zeiss. Why would I go with the z plex over the z 800. Just seems that this scope was made for the cabible I am shooting. http://store.prophetriver.com/zeiss-...0-rapid-z-800/

The z-800 is excellent for hunting, actually quicker than twisting turrets, but the reticle is very thick, so it isn't at all great for precision shooting. If your long distance target work is only plates or larger targets, the z-800 will be fine. However, if you want to shoot for precision at longer range, the z-plex with lockplex turrets is a better combination.

Not for my eyes. There are better choices out there for me. OP it would be a good idea for you to look through the scope you buy with your own eyes.

I really hate agreeing with Elkhunter 11 but he is spot on the money here for sure.

There is no question in my mind either.. The Nikon Monarch is one heckuva 'scope for the money.

Just a follow up. I went with the Zeiss 25-50 with the varmint recticle and locking turrets. Wondering opinions on mounts for the scope. I am hesitant to use a rail as I want something simple. Would some lightweight talley mediums work well enough

Have you ever compared the glass in a huskemaw to a sightron or nightforce? Ive been there and done that. They arent that great. Im not a huge vortex fan but even the viper pst has better glass than a huskemaw. And why they would make a scope with 1/3 MOA adjustments is beyond me.

I compared a Huskemaw with a Zeiss Conquest, and a Nikon Monarch, and and I found both the Conquest and the Monarch optically superior.

I have a conquest on my 22-250 and my son has a monarch on his 243. Both are great scopes and a 1/3 the price of a huskemaw.
