got a question

what parts does a person need to make a sunflower heater into a cook top for a pot or pan or roasting wieneys
the way mine mounts the grill sits vertical...can i buy a adapter to make it sit horizontal?
buddy wants to borrow it for a over night stay on the ice...just for cooking outside they dont want to take wood and make a mess.
all his camping stuff is in a storage unit so he is kinda scrambling to get gear ready

If it has a screen over it (most do) why couldn't you just set the propane tank on its side and put a pot of water on top?

i always thought the tank had to be nozzle side up....but that sure would be a simple solution...i'll call superior to confirm...thanks Stang

Let me know what they say. Although I have a different style heater we use for cooking, would be nice to know if this latest brainwave is a good idea!

the bottle needs to be standing up. at least partially.
the vapour is at the top of the tank.
if you lay it down & it is full you will probably get liquid.
not a good thing. some tanks are designed for laying down.
they have a dip tube inside.

he said only if the tank is less than 1/2 full.....they sell a adapter but it must be installed by them.....hahahahah i dont do electrical and i sure aint doing gas work

i never asked lol when i need something it seems pointless to ask....my buddy is taking his bottle down there and i will let you know when he picks up the heater.

I use mine for cooking all the time, I just take it off the tank and lay it down across the handles. Sometimes you might need a glove or something like that under it to make it stay, but it works. Learned that trick the day I forgot to bring my little BBQ and the kids were expecting me to cook smokies somehow...LOL

Mine has a stand that points the heater sideways. I'll have to look around for the cooker stand. If anyone knows where you can get the cooking frame for it I'd sure like to know. Like I need to haul more ice fishing stuff around.

guys is this not the "sunflower" heater Chubb is referring to? the heater slips out of the stand, you put it back in the other way, lay it down then the heater/grill is now facing up and away you go. it's not the best way to bring water to a boil as the heating element is not that close to the grills. deer sausage no problem. i do use a hose and a 5lb bottle though and can't speak to the propane flow issue. Chubb if your buddy needs a hose let me know i have a few.

I stand the bottle up and adjust the heater over on its side. Be sure it has a grill , if you put a frying pan directly on it , it'll scream and whistle like a banshee !

mine just screws into the top of a bottle and then the element faces you. i guess if it had a stand you could use a hose and lay it down separate from the tank.

Use mine all the time it works great.. I have cooked a pile of fillets on it out on the lake..

As long as the tank is at a bit of an angle which can be changed quickly it is no problem..
