Brass Tumbler Medium??

Received a brass cleaning tumbler a few years ago for Christmas. Seems to me that it is not cleaning and polishing cases as well as it once did. Does one need to change out the medium, does it have a useful life? Do some mediums work better than others? Any recommendations?

Yes, it wears out, gets dirty and needs renewal.

I use crushed Walnut shells with Rouge.

Once in a while, I add a used Bounce sheet that seems to help clean out the fine dusts.

Where do you get crushed walnut shells, do you make your own? That is, do you crush your own nuts?? LOL. My tumbler does not remove stains in the brass. Any suggestions for that?

ive cut up scotchbrite pads into 3/4" chunks and tossed them into the factory media.
did it do any better??
i dont know... but they were sure dirty when i tossed them out.

I went to PetSmart and got a large bag of crushed walnut shells. They sell them as Lizard bedding. A bit finer but works great. For polish use the liguid brass polish from Cabelas. It's only about 10 bucks and you will never go back to the messy rouge. A bag of lizard bedding is cheap also.

I also just dump my media into a big strainer when it gets really dirty and wash it with the garden hose then spread it out to dry. ( I do a lot of pistol brass and don't always pre-wash it).

I seem to get best lifespan and finish out of the green corn cob. For grubby pistol brass I do have a system to pre-wash it with lemishine etc to remove any sand/crud. I still like the media tumber myself. I just got this Dillon not long ago, it's almost the size of a small washing machine LOL. I burnt 2 normal sized tumblers out this summer alone from overloading them all the time.

I am using a Dillon 750, but have never tried corn; I probably will give it a try knowing it can also be used after cleaning it.
