I think he may not have respected the church so much because it is just a human construction. He is addressing our relationship to god/creator.

Thats not even close to how i see faith.
To me faith is accepting yourself as created by the creator... that should be humbling. Its not about thinking in terms of logic, but understanding your insignificance.

We are pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of the universe, but no need to involve a magical, invisible entity into the mix. Life is not a test run, live it being the best person you can be. Once we become worm food, the same atoms that were stardust at one point that made us up, now can feed a tree, or some grass.
