Default Alberta gains record yearly population increase of 202,000

Gained basically the equivalent of two Red Deers in a year. Sure glad the UCP decided against building a new hospital in Edmonton!

Breakdown of growth:

8% natural population increase (births)
27% from other Canadian provinces
26% permanent immigration
39% temporary international residents (study permits, work permits, etc)

So the Feds literally flood this country with hundreds of thousands of people every year and you still find a way to blame the UCP for something?

Your undying love of all things orange would be comical if it wasn't so pathetic.

Fair point, I definitely want to add in what a horrific immigration policy the Trudeau Liberals have brought in. What a disastrous mess they’re making of Canada that is going to take a good while before anything improves.

So 124000 of those are temps.
54000 from other provinces which means probably 1/2 or more are headed back to NFLD,Quebec,And Ontario between shifts and or permanently as soon as they have made bank.
Which means a real increase of maybe 30000?

Even though I agree a new hospital would be wise one of the reasons people are moving to Alberta from within Canada is the political differences compared to the provinces they are leaving. Your issues with Albertas healthcare system is a Canada wide issue not just because of a political party

Definitely need more focus on infrastructure development to keep up to population growth and you won’t get any argument from me there. We also need to cut back on immigration because we presently don’t have the infrastructure to support or even plans to address that

According to Alberta government stats, most growth is from foreign countries. Europe, Asia, Africa. Majority of provinces have mostly outflow towards Alberta. Some in BC, Toronto have taken there lottery winning’s from real estate sales, moved to more practical province. Lower taxes, better provincial government, whom not on big spending spree. Paying down debt. Ms. Smith is providing leadership whereas rest of Canada 🇨🇦 isn’t. People are attracted to confidence. UCP are proving their point.

Wouldn't it be nice to collect provincial tax on these 54,000. At 20,000 per that's 10.8 million per year in to the Alberta coffers.

Great news for people who utilize scab labour.

Bad news for wages, job security, and the cost of housing.

The neo-liberal dream is Hong Kong -- people stacked on top of each other groveling to pay off their family's 100-year mortgage.

Alberta is a victim of its own success and the more of these carpetbaggers who show up the worse this province gets.

Yup, you can bet a large % of these newcomers will bring their lib-dip political views and votes.

B.C should be paying for the next hospital in Alberta.

Should have a $5000 first time fee to get a new Alberta health care card if you're over the age of 16. If you are born here or already have a alberta health care card then its free.

If we build hospitals, we will need to find staff to fill it. Otherwise, it’s a very expensive empty building. The healthcare system is so encumbered by middle management and bureaucracy they are driving doctors and healthcare workers away.
