To muddy the waters even further, the 7.62X51 and a civilian 308 Winchester aree not EXACTLY the same either, esepially in case thickness.
I would suspect that Military '06 brass is thicker than the civilian stuff as well.
A "parent case" is generally considered the case that you can form from, in this instance, the '06 is used for the whole danged family from 35 Whelan on down to sub so cal stuff like the 243 and 22 Middlestead, so that is why I consider it the parent of the 308.

Not that I would ever bother to do that when Ii can buy Lapua brass that is accurate and lasts a very long time.....
