Very interesting. I was sure I would get more of a 700 response
Anybody have a 700 sps varmint? How do you like it?
I know savages shoot, but the 700 is no slouch either
I have other rifles I prefer to hunt with, so this will be mostly a target rifle
I like the fact the 700 has so many aftermarket options

The Savage is a modular design, simply swap barrels and bolt head if needed and you got a new calibre.

I would go with the Remington. I have had two Savages in the last year. A .270 and a .17 HMR. Both shot very accurate. No qualms there. However, IMO, they both reeked of cheapness and cutting corners in every aspect of their manufacture. But that's what they are. Cheap, accurate rifles.

In spite of lots of bad press in recent years, Remington just seems more solid.

Ya ive read the 700 sps has a POS for a stock
Ive owned other savages and they did shoot
Never owned a 700 so I was curious
Im leaning toward the savage. Its just over a hundred dollars cheaper too

Default Remington

Rem 700 all the way. I have 4 and all are capable of moa shooting if I do my part. I have owned savages to try them because they were a good deal and couldn't sell them fast enough.

My 700 is 35 years old (I bought it new) and I'd never part with it. Last spring I bought the Savage M25 in .222 and like it well enough. Shoots good, love the thumb-hole stock but the clip is a plastic POS that detracts from the nice features of the gun.

Ive never been impressed with the accustock it is to finicky with its tourqe sequence on the action screws to get proper accuracy and i just flat out hate the accurrigger cant stand pulling that tab before the trigger i would go rem 700 all the way with timney or rifle basix trigger

Default Remington

Remington for sure! My newest Remington 700 shot a 1/2'' group on its very first range session, and remember, I'm old! SN2 is right. Savages are cheap, too cheap.

Just take a look at what custom gun makers use for a platform. If it isn't a custom action, most of them are building off a Rem 700. They are built solid, last and aftermarket parts are readily acceptable.

Savage is a better buy. Better trigger, better barrel, and that statement of the 700 being a tighter action is a load of Crap. The front of a savage bolt locks up better than any other factory 700 and most others. The whole point of the floating bolt head is to help achieve the 100% lug contact that a factory rem can only dream about. We won't even get started on barrels, hammer forged or button rifled. Kind of a no brainer if you ask me.

Equivalent question (for those old enough to remember) ............
Ginger or Maryann ?
Both very nice in the own way and whether a deserted Isle or coyote field both could do the job, but which do YOU prefer? Rhetorical question. No need to derail with answers............

Not a fan of the new rem, I do like my savage. Both felt the same to me far as quality it came down to the savage having a smoother bolt in my case and being cheaper could spend a little more on the right scope. Go to the store and do your own comparison and see which feels better to you after all your gonna be shooting it..... Its like asking what truck should u buy.. I'm gonna say dodge of course
