So is it still retention of 1 fish 75cm minimum or did the new 1 allowed 70-75 cm slot come into effect for 2024 in January? I can't find anything online giving any updates since the consultations when they last said the new slot size would come into effect for the 2024 season once consultations were completed with SK...

I believe the Laker size so you can keep one will be 65- 70 cm come May of 2024

I thought they were going with 70-75 but it's been a few months since I watched the fisheries engagement video and followed along. It would be nice to keep one or two each season for the smoker...

High pressure system rolled in and man the lakers are on. At least here, just super aggressive but the deadsticks are just that, dead, so far
60 fow at the top of a small hump.
White and green 5” cold lake special 1 oz tubes are getting it done.

Always awesome to run into forum members/people out on the lake, share a few stories and laughs, talk what has been working etc....exchange phone numbers for the just in case situations requiring assistance which makes a trip that much more enjoyable.
Just save a few for me

So I bought a bunch of rods off a forum member broadhead and this little gem was part of the package.
Normark Bumerang made in Finland.
Traditional Scandinavian design ice rod with reel. Great for getting deep fast. This classic jigging rod is a perfect travel rod for any ice angler.
The lightweight design is durable enough for pike and trout with the added benefit of sensitivity to feel even the lightest bites, so a website says.
Came with about 100 feet of line or I should say small diameter rope so have decided to give it a whirl on lakers. Going to be a gong show if I hook up but hey what’s life without a few challenges.
Fear me not with my mighty rod and lure I didn’t enter the upcoming ice fishing tourney.

They do drop line like right now, which is good for laker fishing. I've seen some big fish caught on those back in the day. I won't say it was pretty, but they worked.

2024 Cold Lake Ice Fishing Tournament
Cant stress it enough folks, we had snow, it drifted all over the ice heaves be them big or little and they will wreck your day if you don't pay attention. Already hearing of vehicles hung up etc and the tournament has a warning about the big bugger in front of the marina. I know there are a few others at English bay area, middle of the lake too so be careful.
Good luck to all.
Tight lines.

I was actually quite surprised to only see a few tents in front of the marina today, I figured it would be tent city. First day seemed pretty slow fishing wise, at least for myself and others I spoke with. Tomorrows another day and will try another area!
to all this weekend

I can appreciate the ingenuity but do you need me to send you a 12v pie oven?

Good lord I would be the size of my tent come end of ice season if I had an oven....last year I was running and gunning with the sled in which the exhaust manifold did the cooking for me but I had to earn the meal.

Nope, too busy for a retired fella.
Looks like the bigger fish are still soaking on the bottom not interested but that could turn on in a heart beat.
Decent weather for those out there.

So anyone on the forum give the tourney a go?
How did you find it?
Hopefully a good experience for all.

We did the tournament.....was a great weekend. We iced a pile of fish but nothing bigger than 75. Wife finished 40 something with a 75 a 73 and a 71 and I finished with a 71 a 71 and a 69. We probably averaged 12-15 fish/day.

Truck is packed. Leaving for Cold Lake tomorrow with plans of landing my first CL laker on the ice this weekend! I’ll be in a grey Tacoma with matching topper if anyone wants to say hi and make fun of me being in the wrong spot!!
