Default Spring Turkey Hunt 2018

Morning,

I'm looking for some tips and tricks for snagging a Tom for the spring hunt in the Cranbrook area. I'm looking for any logging roads that i should focus in on or area's I should be in.

So far I checked the IMAPBC and found some crown land but curious if it's where I should go.

The list consists of the following:
Wasa and Cranbrook
East of Wardner
Saint Mary Road west of Kimberly
And South of Skook

Also should I be in the valleys around the rivers or make my way up to the snowline?

First post but I read the discussions all the time.

Thanks!

Can’t help you with where to find turkeys so as as I can help you with where not to find them!

I’ve spent a lot of time up the st Mary road and never saw turkey. General opinion seemed to be that there weren’t any up that way, although I swore I heard them in the bush there once.

Anyway good luck! But I’m pretty certain you can rule out the st Mary on list of spots to check.

Did you drive past St Marys Lake?

Everywhere I read states stick around Cranbrook or head further west and South.

Thanks for the info.

I have spent lots of time up the St. Marys, I have never seen a turkey up that way. I would concentrate lower in the trench. FT. Steele area along the Kootenay river. IMO

Default Update

Saw a couple hens north of Fort Steele besides that tried to call a Tom on one locations just 5min west of Cranbrook. Besides that the trip was a bust at the following locations:

Wasa, Canal, Radium, Warren

From what i've read in other forums Fort Steel is depleted.

I'm going out again weekend of May 12th, here's hoping Creston holds some birds!

Saw 4 of them near Hudson's hope last winter, had no idea they were around there.
