You might also look into CZ in 6.5 grendal. It's a 7.62x39 case necked down to 6.5. CZ uses their 527 small action for it.

I picked up a T3 in 260 remington and found a used factory T3 stock for $50. Reduced the LOP to 13", filled with low expansion window foam, and installed a limbsaver recoil pad. Loaded some 85 grain sierras and the recoil is almost nothing. Loaded some 130 grain Accubonds and they are also very pleasant to shoot.

When my daughter was 14, I got her a Cooey in 308 from a fellow AO member. She had previously shot my Enfield without difficulty. She started with reduced recoil loads and still sometimes uses them but has no difficulty with federal 165 grain nosler partition. It is a heavier rifle which reduces the recoil but now she has something that she can use for moose or elk in the future. The lower cost allowed me to buy her a quality scope (Cabellas Meopta) for it. This worked for us.

Thumbs up

Man those little rem model 7's chambered in 7-08 topped with a 2-7 power scope would be an awesome starter/forever rifle....from moose to mice.

Building 6.5 Grendel Howa barreled action(20" #1 contour) in mdt lss chassis for my kids. 6.5 lbs before scope. Using the AR accessories means adjustable butt stocks to fit anyone in the family and these rifles will grow with them. The cartridge itself has half the recoil energy of a .308 but essentially same trajectory etc. Holds 1000 ft/lbs to 400 yards, or 1600 fps to 600 yards. Recoil energy and muzzle energy equivalent to .22-250 (half way between .223 and .243).

Buy the action from Prophet River Firearms, buy the chassis from MDT direct in bc...the chassis you'll have in a few days! The action a few weeks. Pick up grips and stocks from places in town like alberta tactical or 911 supply (if in calgary).

I'll end up duplicating this rig for each kid and they can take it with them when they move out, it will do everything they ever need around here and remain a great predator calling or back up rig and they can dable from there on as they see fit. By all accounts these howa actions in chassis builds you put together yourself at home in your underwear...will be approx. 1/2 moa rigs.

Just a suggestion.
