Default Shimano Bob Izuma signature series 10'6 rod

So I am looking to start fly fishing. Had lessons long ago. Just came into this rod. Seems way too long for a beginner like me. Can't find much about it on the googler except someone wants one in Calgary. Anyone have an opinion whether I should keep it for when I do get some skill or just sell it and move on the something else? What might it be worth? Thanks for any wisdom in advance.

Can't say for certain, but I believe the Bob Izumi Signature Series rods weren't actually fly rods. It is likely a long conventional rod of some sort. Sorry if I'm mistaken.

There are 2 points to be addressed here. First, I couldn't find a Bob Izumi Signature fly rod so I suspect you have a baitcaster. From what I can recall, they were a mid priced rod (like most of Shimano products) and I would not expect to get more than $50-$60 for it. Second (and more importantly), don't let a longer rod scare you off. I find a short fly rod harder for a newbie to cast than a longer one. A short rod demands your timing be quicker and more accurate than a long (9'-10') rod. A starter rod in that size range is going to give you much better results IMO.

p.s. I don't often watch Izumi's show, but over many years I have caught more than a few and I can't ever remember him so much as holding a fly rod, let alone using one. And to the best of my knowledge, Shimano doesn't make fly rods (at least I don't recall ever seeing them and couldn't find any on Shimano's home page).

Baitcaster, or downrigger rod, as I've never seen Bob Isumi with a fly rod on any of his shows, and Shimano isn't known for fly rods, price who knows,
I let it go and go, buy a TFO or similar 9 foot, 5 or 6 weight fly rod,

Not related to the OP's question but Bob Izumi actually did fly fish in at least one of his shows right here on the NSR for gold eye if anyone is interested.
