Default Best cell service provider -rural

I’m currently looking at getting new phones for the wife and I (iPhone or maybe Samsung) and I was wondering who has the best coverage in rural (particularly NWj Ab?

When we first moved here 10+ years ago Telus was head and shoulders above the competitors for coverage but I suspect they’ve closed the gap. A buddy has Rogers and says he gets good coverage even in the bush southof GP.

Not looking to be surfing the inter web or anything but always nice to be able to check in or call if something goes wrong.

What’s everyone using? Thanks!

There's way to many variables. Tower locations relative to where you are, Weather, # of cell phones between you and the tower, topography, etc.

If you want a phone that works 90% of the time, get a satellite phone for when you're in the bush.

Might want to look at koodo. Same towers as telus but better priced packages.

What Skidderman said. Telus still has far better coverage outside Edmonton and Calgary than any of the others. I have a hunting buddy from Manitoba that uses Rodgers, most of the time he gets no service on the back roads and mine on Kodoo is fine.

Bell piggybacks on the TELUS tower network.

My personal cell is with Telus, and my work cell is with Bell, both phones pick up and lose service almost identically.

Do your shopping for the best plan with either of these carriers and pick what suits you better.

Default Public Mobile

I needed data and good coverage throughout the province. I ended up going with Public Mobile (set it up through London Drugs). For $50 a month I get 8.5 GB data at 3g speed; works for me because at the farm that's all that's available to me with a booster anyway. Also, unlimited international text and unlimited Canada & USA talk. No contract, bring your own phone and $10.50 to set it up. And Public is now owned by Telus (along with Koodo) so you know whose network they're using. Koodo's closest equivalent package is $75 without USA talk and offers only 8GB data.
