Talking Late season elk

I am leaving Thursday evening for north western Alberta to go with some of my hunting pals to tag along as they try for their with their cow elk draws.
Taking all my warmest gear to be ready for super cold temps.

My friends came with me on my Antelope hunt and helped out in September of last year so now im going with them to lend a hand where needed when they get their Elk...

Should be a cool adventure.....

I just finished spending 5 days hunting on my late season cow tag, and let me tell you it isn’t no cake walk.
Minus 30 degree weather, frozen equipment, 3 feet of snow, stuck vehicles, uncooperative weather, and the list goes on. If you can get the job done, it is a well deserved feeling you have when it’s all said and done.
After taking part in this hunt this year, I honestly gained a lot more respect for late season hunts such as this one and others like the bison hunt.

Good luck on your hunt boys!

Should be a good hunt, been seeing herds almost every day for the last couple weeks. Usually groups of 20-40.
Good Luck!

Talking Late season elk sucess!!!!

Wow was that cool..... -32c!!
We drove 6 hrs up to our spot North west of Grand Prairie.

There were landowners more than willing to give us permission because the Elk were all herded up getting into their Hay bales.
The Elk eat 2 bales a night @ $100 each the 1 landowner said.....he loses lots of feed.
We left the guys place and quickly spotted 4 Elk like 8 minutes later.
Made a move and got good shots on 2.
Then we used our skidoo and a toboggan to go retrieve them.

Then the next morning we ran into a herd of like 200!! and got 2 more cows to finish up!!
Sure was cold, but it made the gutting and skinning go fast.
Then today did a blizzard condition 6 hour drive home.
It was cold but sure was fun we had a BLAST!!

While you guys followed the rule most land owners have about hunting cow elk up here "you can do it, but you have to shoot more then one"

Congratulations on the successful cold weather hunt.... you forgot to mention it was -40's with the wind chill
