Default 3rd year processing coyotes!!

It’s my 3rd year processing coyotes this year and I am really excited to hone my craft a little better this year. I learned a tone of stuff last year thanks to some great guys on here!! Pikeslayer, hunterdave, Nube, and a few others.

I ended up taking in a total of 6 coyotes last year and ended up with $500, $200 of that coming from one dog alone haha three others were under $40 due to my learning mistakes but I was pumped to have had a couple well graded doggs.

This year my goal is to get 20! And to really do a good job with the skinning and tail. The tail was my biggest learning curve last year. Ripped a few haha

With my big game hunting season all wrapped up I am wondering is now the time to start getting after these critters???

Go for it! They are getting very close to being fully prime and I will be taking advantage of the nice weather on the weekend to hang more snares. If you are in the Morinville area drop by the shed some time. I'll be in there pretty much everyday for the next few months.

Coyotes are primed up now, everything I boarded this week was a white back. Have at it. As for tails, make sure you use a tail puller. Don't leave your coyotes too long before you skin them, the tails dry out. Fresher the better. Some are just tough, and some are impossible due to past injuries.

I'm no expert on fur quality and I'm sure that you know a lot more about it than me, Spruce. I just go by the colour of the hide. Here's a picture of the hide on one that was caught Tuesday that I put up last night. We're not that far apart but it sounds like they prime earlier up your way. November 15 is my go to date.

I'm curious about something that I noticed......The guard hair seems longer on ELY dogs and late season dogs. I suspect that it is due to a lack of underfur. Is this another way of determining primeness?

Where do you get that spreader chain deal for hanging them?

I use a large size dog choker to hang frozen coyotes, beaver to dry, etc.

A lot better than loosening a rope noose all the time.

First two sits yesterday got my first two doggs!! Skinned them out yesterday and I was successful on removing the tails. If you recall last year this is where I struggled the most in the process. It definitely helps to skin them fresh.

Could I get the spacing off you? I could easily make that.

Thanks.

Well done on getting the coyotes. What caliber and bullet are you using there?
