Default Riding plans for tomorrow changed

Plan was to go to the panther River for our weekly outing tomorrow. Maybe not.

Just read an article about how bear encounters with humans is on the rise. I know we hear this all the time, but this was a no BS article backed up with real data and statistics.
Regardless, I will still get out and enjoy the outdoors. Might pack a larger canister of Bear Begone though.
Anti's should be happy. Lots more bears not being hunted.

PR has always been grizz country though. I used to hunt up there because that used to be the closest Sunday Hunting WMU in the province which I could get to. There were 2 serious maulings of hunters by grizzlies that made it to the newspapers at that time. I think one bear was shot from a helicopter not long after. You'd always get occasional reports of cattle and horses being torn apart too. I once flushed a particularly large black-colored bear off the road just where it starts to go up the mountain past the ranch.

I'd never go out there without Mr. Bee at any time of year.

Default Panther

We (2) went up or a ten day pack trip a couple years back. When we got there a sign greeted us at the trail head. Problem Bear in area, will not be removed. We went in anyways. Weather was rainy and heavy overcast with no moon. At night you could not see six inches past your nose. Heard a few alarming sounds at night a few times but never did see a bear. One night, a tourist doe came into camp and pulled on a piece of twine on the corner of the tarp we were sleeping under, she got it caught in her throat and stated to choke on it. I never got up so fast, with a light and a firearm in my life !
