What is the difference between bore solvent, bore cleaner and copper solvent. How are each used?

Most copper solvents work ok on powder, and carbon fouling too, seldom are powder solvents or carbon solvents effective on copper.
I have used a rotation of solvents in the past, with an ok result.
Then I found Wipeout!
You don't need brushes, a drawer full of solvents. 1 can, and just spray it in the bore, let it sit over night, and your rifle is clean(maybe twice on ugly dirty rifles)

To answer the OP: Bore solvent and bore cleaner are basically synonymous. A usually liquid compound used to clean the bore. As stated above some work on all forms of fouling, some do not. A copper solvent would be one which targets copper fouling, though it may also clean powder and other fouling.

Most bore solvents/cleaners, are designed to remove powder fouling, but are not very effective at removing copper fouling, even though many claim to remover copper fouling. It can take several days to remove copper fouling with most general purpose bore solvents that do claim to remove copper fouling, but the best copper solvents, like KG-12,CR-10, or Sweets 7.62, can remove pretty significant copper fouling, in less than an hour.

I have not seen CR - 10 for about two years. I have been using Sweets 7.62. I have never tried WipeOut as I am a bit hesitant to leave anything but oil in the bore for any extended period of time. I do not have a bore scope, so can not be certain how much copper is left after about a dozen solvent soaked patches over about 10 minutes ... but, by that time they are generally coming out reasonably clean. I usually fire 30 - 50 rounds between cleaning, so there is likely not a great deal of copper accumulation in my lapped barrels, each of which goes through a break- in procedure when new.

Likewise. I've read all the support for it in previous threads, but have looked at CT, TSE, CSC, and WSS and haven't seen it yet.

Where do you guys buy it?

I think wipe-out is good but it still leaves fouling behind. Every 100-200rounds I'll clean with iosso paste on a patch wrapped around a jag followed up with a nylon brush. Then I'll do a wipe-out soak.

That's on factory barrels. I had a RKS barrel that cleaned up nicer and easier than any factory barrel.

I'm sure I've seen it at the Canadian Tire on Macleod Trail. I bought the can I'm using now at the Thorncliffe Gun show, don't remember which vendor.

I find KG-12 to work faster than either Sweets or CR-10, and unlike those solvents, it can safely be left in the barrel for extended periods. I now use KG-12 exclusively.

Break Free works real well to keep carbon out but once carbon builds up then Wipe out is the answer. Use the Wipe Out Accelerator and you can clean the bore in an hour instead of waiting till the next day.

Let me tell you about wipe out. I had a rifle I hadn't cleaned once in 18 years and had been used a lot. 2 treatments of wipe out (over night soaks) and a moderate amount of brushing and my bore was clean as a whistle. Never would have believed it. Accuracy was restored and I am one happy camper!

This is what I use. It really gets rid of the copper quickly with its high ammonia content. My bottle is empty so I'm looking to give Wipeout a try.

Sportsmens Den in Red Deer had a bunch of Wipeout in stock also. I have salvaged more than a few "so-called" shot out barrels with it.

Do yourself a favor, and get a rigid one piece cleaning rod, and a proper bore guide.

Bore snakes are good for people that have never used a one piece rod, bore guide and Wipe Out.
I have previous bottles of chemicals supposed to be the 'Best Bore cleaner out there" sitting on my shelves collecting dust since I tried Wipe-Out.

Regardless of the chemicals being used, a one piece rod, and a proper bore guide are a good idea. It has been posted on this forum before, but using a bore snake, is like wiping your behind with a hula hoop.
