Which 7mm?The 7mm rem,mag,7mmwsm,7mmstw,7wby,and 7mm-08 would all make great sheep cartridges.

I'm partial to the wsm, in a 270 calibre.

If you handload, brass shouldn't be a problem, however,I wouldn't expect to see 7mmwsm factory loads on the shelves in a few years, based on the slow sales of this cartridge.

Default 300 wsm

.300 wsm is a great round! I no longer hunt with my Beanfield gun in 7mm STW as this little Winchested Shadow in .300 wsm will deliver downrange like no other. I'm hard to impress, but everything has fallen quickly with 165 grain Ballistic Tip bullets sitting on 63 grains of R22. Hope that helps and enjoy the new family member.

The 300wsm is certainly a good round, but in no way can it match the trajectory of the 7mmstw,if both are loaded to their potential.

7mm Rem Mag is still one of my all-time favorites, and it deserves it. Bit of recoil in a lightweight, but nothing unmanageable. A 7mmSTW in a real light rifle loaded to "it's potential" might set you back to where you started climbing from. Hard to beat the one real "7-em-em" for a lot of things (Rem Mag that is) but if I were climbing and packing I'd take my 7-08. Lighter and more importantly shorter. A 140 grainer at around 2800 is good for everything and won't kick you off the mountain.

I have a 300WSM and love it, so it gets my vote.

If recoil is of no concern 7mm RUM. I own a 300 WSM which is an excellent gun but the 7mm RUM has outstanding ballistics however recoil will be extreme.

Six of one and half a dozen of the other....both are fine for what you want to do.

The 300 will buck the wind a little better with heavier bullets on the upper end but again...both will do the job.

I'd stretch out the casings but that's just me

If you don't reload you have only 1 choice of bullets from what I've seen. My own personal experiance with it is it is very touchy to reload. It does have outstanding ballistics-(and the recoil to go with it)
