Browning Citori
I was just offered to buy a Browning Citori 20 ga. from a guy. I ran the serial # to get the age of the shot gun, and it looks to be a '77. I was wondering if I can shoot steel shot threw this or not? I don't think I can, but want to be sure.

Pretty sure you can't. I have one from the 1980 and you can't use steel. They are great gun though. Deadly on upland.

What are the chokes in it?
if it's IC/MOD, you will be okay , Japanese steel is good stuff and the barrels will stand the strain , no sweat, as long as it's not a full choke.

Does anyone recall if that saltwood ever made it into mid 70's Citoris?

1965 to to 1971, but I would not rule out anything from '72-73!
Some Rugers had salt wood as well....

They are sometimes on the side of the barrel block. Look for asterisks, or a combination of asterisks, and dashes.

I think there were some that made it through in the early 70's greylynx. But to check and be sure, just remove one of the screws from the butt plate. If it is rusted, chances are it is salt wood.
Otherwise, you could lick the barrel channel, and if you feel a sudden urge for fries, chances are it's salt wood.....just kiddin'

You could get it bored out by a gunsmith fairly easily to modified top and bottom and you would be good to go! I have a 20g Citori from that era and would not trade it for anything, absolutely love it!

Another alternative would be to hand load non-tox shot loads for it.

All good info guys. Love the way the shot gun feels. But don't need an upland bird shot gun way up here. So was hoping to find a way to make it a good duck gun. Thanks for all the info. Helping me out, for the decision

Did some reading up on shells, and it looks like I can use Kent tungsten matrix shells. Has anyone else used these shells? And how well did they perform on ducks and geese in the 20ga.

Hope you make every shot count. tungsten matrix run
35$ for 10rounds it would be cheaper in the long run to have a smith open the chokes and shoot steel at 12-15$ for 25 rounds.

Holy crap! Didn't read I needed to sell my first born to shoot some shells!
