Default Update from the fire zone.

The county lifted our evacuation order day before yesterday.

We were out of our home for just under a week. The fire never came close to our property, but it was threatening our only road access so the county ordered us out.

At it's closest point, the fire was just over ten miles from our home, and downwind of us. Of course a wind change could have brought it right to us but thankfully that didn't happen.

Some of our friends were not so fortunate. We knew several of the people who lost their homes in Paddle Prairie. And today a few are still battling the fire in an effort to save their homes. They do have help, forest fire crews and structural fire crews are in the area, but no one else can reach them.

We spent a week with my sister and BIL in Weberville, a few miles north of Peace River. The accommodations were wonderful, the hospitality even better. But as many of you know, it's no fun being forced out of your home, especially when it's in the path of a wildfire.

We had no internet access there so today I'm catching up with what has been happening in the rest of the world, and letting family and friends know that we are okay, and our home is still standing.

Today there is no smoke from the fire here. It's not out but we had rain so it's at a standstill for now and if the weather co-operates I expect the crews will have it under control by the end of the week.

Great to hear you guys are good, been wondering about you and a few others up that way. Sucks that so many others did lose their homes and were displaced for a while, but hopefully the worst is over.

Glad that you are back home safely!! I sure hope this rain that we are getting in the Edmonton area is hitting the northern affected areas as well.
